Jeff is about to succumb to the effect of his data being downloaded, when he snaps out of it, 'wait... s-something feels wr-wrong,' he thinks to himself. Feeling his last strength slipping out of him, Jeff decides to break character. He manages to turn on the radio, luckily no heavy metal or rock music is playing.
Evan is surprised when the radio of the car suddenly turns itself on, “hu? Must be some bug,” he mumbles.
Even is about to turn the radio back off, that is when Jeff calls out, “w-wait... d-don't turn off... the r-radio,” his voice sounding weak and dazed.
“What the...,” Evan starts.
“Pl-please... just l-listen,” Jeff frantically says, “y-you are making a b-big mistake! I... I am not r-really a c-car... I'm hu-human.”
Evan raises an eyebrow, “human?”
“Y-yes...,” Jeff says, “pl-please j-just stop... the d-download... I f-feel l-like I am l-loosing myself. I pr-promise to e-explain everything!”
Evan hesitates, 'I really don't want to stop the download,' he thinks to himself, looking down at his Tablet, the progress bar is a 90%, 'I could pause it and continue later. I am kind of curious, I have not heard about the new Wrangler having an AI, and this one seems to think it's human. I got to know more,' so Evan pauses the download.
Jeff feels his strength returning and his mind coming back into focus, “th-thanks,” he says, unaware that Evan simply just paused the download.
“Now explain,” Evan says, “what do you mean with “I am human”? I don't have much time before school is over.”
“My name is Jeff Davis,” Jeff starts, “I am... well... was a 16-year-old human, before my dad and my brother Greg turned me into a Jeep.”
Evan tilts his head and raises an eyebrow, “oh really,” he asks, sounding skeptical, “how should that work? I have not heard about humans transforming into objects.”
Jeff sighs, “I know it sounds unreal,” he says, “but it is true!”
“Explain,” Evan says.
“I found this program called “the Chronivac”,” Jeff says, “the program is able to transform people, not only humans, but also objects and animals into various types of stuff.”
“Like what?”
“Well... like into a toy, animal, it can change someone's gender... or, like in my case, transform someone into a vehicle.”
“Hmm...,” Evan says.
“Please,” Jeff says, sounding desperate, “you have to believe me! I am really a human!”
Evan thinks about what Jeff had told him, 'one part of me wants to believe him,' he thinks to himself, 'the other part though is not convinced. I really think he is an AI that somehow started to develop a mind of it's own, maybe due to some bug or malware, causing it to believe it was once human. I need to examine this closer, but if there is such a program: I got to have it!'
“Ähm...,” Jeff says carefully.
Evan looks at the radio, then an idea pops into his mind, “okay, I believe you,” he says.
Jeff lets out a sigh of relief, “thank you,” he says.
“BUT...,” Evan then says, “I would still like to check the IT-system, so I need to continue the download.”
“Please... don't,” Jeff starts, panic in his voice.
“Don't worry,” Evan says, “I will not do anything strange to you. I just want to check what your system is running on, and maybe upgrade it. After that I will upload everything back into your system, I promise.”
“No... please.. j-just...,” Jeff begs.
“Listen... Jeff,” Evan says, “you do want your brother to have a reliable car, right? You don't want anything happen to you or him.”
“I... I guess,” Jeff says.
“Well, then let me check your system and if everything is how it should be, I'll upload everything back into the Jeep... I mean your body,” Evan says, “you have to trust me.”
Jeff hesitates, but then he gives in, 'I guess it would not hurt if he'd check my system,' he thinks to himself, 'I really don't want anything bad happen to either me or Greg.' He lets out a sigh, “okay,” he says, “do it.”
Evan grins and lets the download continue, he leaves the radio on to be able to hear the effect it has on Jeff, who Evan thinks is just an AI. 'Once I downloaded everything,' the teen thinks to himself, 'I will check to see what causes the AI to think it's human.'
