Adam woke up the next day, feeling very very strange. He'd had some pretty weird dreams after all that and probably shifted a bunch in his sleep. Things definitely felt off, but as he started to consider how exactly, he realized how bad going down that road could be. Instead he just fumbled for his phone, with a somewhat cold and feathery hand, and starting looking through selfies.
No, not THOSE selfies! She quickly paged through the set she'd clearly taken setting up that dating profile, really trying not to think about how she'd gotten her legs up behind her shoulders like that... and eventually reached some nice normal ones. Poses at concerts, hanging out with friends. A nice normal human guy. Adam. That's who he was. Just had to focus on that. Everything else would sort itself out. Just focus on being totally normal.
Adam repeated that like a mantra through his whole morning routine, and hurried down to the lab. Dr. Yorva was running late for some reason, so he used the extra time to call his landlord, and make up a bit of a white lie about someone breaking in while he was out the day before. It wasn't completely untrue. He was outside when he broke the window, he was someone. The place was pretty convincingly ransacked. A few minutes later he got a rather disgrunted call back, insisting he stay in tomorrow until the window guy got there, no matter what he might have planned. Heating the whole neighborhood and all that. Whatever, Adam could use a day off.
Eventually Dr. Yorva entered, with a young mousey woman behind him. "Ah, and here's Adam now! Adam, this is Diane. I've just given her the same treatment as you. Since things have been proceeding so smoothly, expanding the study just makes sense. And of course while I don't want to rush into anything, her still getting properly oriented with all this, going forward I'd really like to run a few trials on two subjects mimicking the same form... or maybe trading places for a day soon? I have been promised a grant should this experiment prove useful in, well, that whole sort of affair..."
Adam was torn. On the one hand, he desperately wanted to explain what had happened to him the day before... but it might be better to have that conversation somewhere a bit more private.
