As Selena left her Geography class, she suddenly heard her ringtone. She whipped out her phone and answered. "Hello?" she asked, wondering who this could be. "It's Selena Lyall."
"It's me, Liesel von Karnstein," said the caller. "You know, Tats' hippie sister."
Selena smiled. With her warm smile and love of life's simple joys, Liesel had always been Selena's favorite of Tatiana's vampire sisters. She had platinum hair that flowed down to her ankles, mysterious violet eyes, and soft porcelain skin. She liked to dress in floral maxi-skirts, loose peasant blouses, headscarves, and sandals (when she wasn't barefoot).
"I'm calling to warn you," Liesel went on.
"About what?" Selena asked nervously.
"Tats has been getting really weird lately," Liesel answered. "Ever since you started dating Jez, her aura's gone a sort of dingy grey. She thinks she's lost you."
"That's ridiculous!" Selena protested. "I'd love to have two amazing girlfriends!"
"Hey, I of all vampires understand free love," Liesel giggled, "but Tats just can't understand that you and Jez aren't exclusive... and she's made a majorly insane plan."
"Oh?" Selena asked warily.
"She's bought a potion from Morgana," said Liesel. "It's a variation of an old monster hunter concoction. Trust me, I know. I came from a monster hunter family before I was turned, the Vorgenburgs. It's supposed to thin out a vampire's venom until she dies. The Vordenburgs used to drink it and then allow vampires to feed from them. But this potion won't kill Tats... I think. Morgana's done something to it. It's... it's weird. If it works like Tats thinks it will, Jez should be able to..."
"Jezebel's in on this?!" Selena gasped.
"You'll understand why in a second," said Liesel. "Like I was saying, getting the potion into your bloodstream should allow Jez to... to merge your soul with Tatiana's."
Selena just stared blankly at her phone for a moment. "Um... what?"
"She figures that as long as she can't have you, she should become one with you. Jezebel sees this as an opportunity to rid herself of a romantic rival ethically. Mom and Delilah du Charme aren't thrilled with this, but they've decided to support their daughters' wishes unconditionally. And, of course, Morgana Faye's being paid a small fortune to make it all possible. Me, I hate this. This is all completely unnatural, and there's, like, a million risks. Tats could die, you could lose your weretiger powers, anything. Ugh, may Mother Night make Tats see reason!"
"Thanks for warning me," said Selena.
"Just don't tell Mom or Tats that it was me who tipped you off," Liesel asked. "It could get in a lot of trouble."
"I promise," said Selena. "Bye." She then ended the call, ruminating on the bombshell the undead hippie had just dropped.
