Tori Vordenburg stretched in her seat as her plane landed at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport. Tori was eager to escape the confines of the plane, but she and Erzulie forced themselves to remain in their seats until the ding that told them they were allowed to remove their seat belts. Then the mad rush for the terminal gate began. Dozens of desperate people jostled and elbowed their way past Tori and Erzulie. One particularly rude woman even pushed a man with a broken leg out of her way. Erzulie would have put a curse on the bitch if only she'd had a voodoo doll of her prepared. In all the chaos, the two monster hunters couldn't see Fiona and Megan at all.
After a lot of struggle, Tori and Erzulie finally made their way into the terminal. After a short search, the located Fiona and Megan, who joined them. "Jings!" Fiona gasped. "Thae airports ur braw loud, aren't thay?"
"You can say that again," Erzulie chuckled. "Welcome to civilization, Fiona, warts and all."
"So, what do we do now?" asked Megan.
"Well, we're in Seattle right now," said Tori, flicking a stray strand of blonde hair out of her eyes. "We're almost where we need to be. Fortunately, Stokerville's only a three-and-a-half hours' drive from here in good traffic. I had the foresight to rent a car ahead of time. It should be here at the airport already, so we can start right away."
"Do we talk to the vampires first?" Megan asked excitedly. "I can't wait to meet a clan that isn't murderous! If I click with them, I might even join them. Being a solitary vampire would probably get lonely after a while."
Tori shook her head in disbelief. "I still can't believe I'm working with a vampire like you, Megan. I can't believe I'm starting to like a vampire like you!"
"Aw, thanks!" Megan smiled. "That's really sweet... by your standards."
"I think we'll hold off on visiting the von Karnsteins for a bit," Tori went on. "We'll actually drive a bit beyond Stokerville and visit a town called Byron Heights. An angel called Yomiel lives there, and we're old friends. She's more tenderhearted than most monster hunters, but she's happy to help me destroy any monster that's actively hurting people. We should talk with her before we do anything else."
"Jings!" Fiona exclaimed. "Ah've ne'er met an angel afore! Ah will be sure tae mind mah manners! Ye... ye dinnae think she'll care that ah used tae be a vampire, dae ye?"
"Of course not, Fiona," Erzulie smiled. "I turned you back into a living human with my magic, didn't I? Besides, Yomiel's so kind and understanding that she's even nice to current vampires like Megan here. You'll like her. Trust me, I know. Not all angels tolerate witches like me, but she always warmly greets me like an old friend."
Fiona sighed with relief. "That's guid tae ken."
"I just hope Yomiel understands Fiona's Scottish accent," Tori whispered to Erzulie.
"Angels have the gift of tongues," Erzulie whispered back, fingering one of her dreadlocks. "Yomiel could understand a Sumerian, let alone a Scotswoman like Fiona."
"Good to know," said Tori. "Now let's find our rental car and get on with our mission. Aunt Kim wants to know what's up with Beck, and I'll be fucking damned if I don't find out!"
