Suddenly, Gael's parents came rushing out the front door, possibly from the commotion of a several ton vehicle being moved around like a inflated ball.
"What the heck was that noise?" Gael's dad Mark asked. "And what the heck are you wearing?"
Gael was relieved. They hadn't seen him actually do anything abnormal.
"Uh, it's my...halloween costume!" Gael said unconvincingly.
Gael's mom Beth was the stricter of the two. "Well, this looks way different from a normal costume. Where did you get this?"
"Uh, from the computer. Jeff's computer." Technically, he wasn't wrong, but Gael realized it probably wasn't the best idea to draw their attention to the Chronivac.
Beth started to get more angrier. "I thought I told Jeff not to let you buy anything else with my credit card! Where is he, anyway? He was supposed to look after you this tonight."
Gael kept up his act. "He's out with friends already."
Beth nudged her husband. "Punish him, dear."
Mark had already lost interest in the conversation. "Well son, you're uh, grounded tonight. No Halloween for you. Go to your room."
Gael was escorted upstairs to his bedroom, costume still on. As he entered, Beth wasted no time locking the door behind him. "Don't worry, your brother isn't getting off easy either once he comes home!"
Gael sighed. What use was his new power if he was stuck here all night? He couldn't just blow a hole into his house and give himself away, could he? Or maybe he didn't have to be that direct...?
He thought for a minute for the best phrasing and then whispered confidently: "--PHASING THROUGH SOLID OBJECTS--". With that, a familiar surge of energy coursed through his veins and his costume and eyes lit up with pure golden power.
"I could get used to this feeling," Gael thought. When it was done, he picked up a book to confirm. Holding it in one hand, he willed his other hand to pass through it. It was a weird sensation at first but he soon got used to transitioning his hand from solid to ethereal, and waving back and forth through the hefty tome at will.
Now, it was time to leave. But wait, Gael though. If I phase through the walls, I'd take a nasty plunge off the second story of my house! There was only one real solution. --FLIGHT--
A switch flicked in Gael's brain, making the laws of gravity a mere suggestion. Gael could only laugh at how simple it was to ignore them now, as if he hadn't just gained this power seconds ago. His body rose above the bed, golden boots now hovering inches off the ground. He struck a few classic poses in front of his mirror before combining his most recent powers and levitating directly through the roof of his house!
