Animalia Magazine: Looking for Luck Edition

added by makutamon 6 months ago O

The March Edition of Animalia Magazine was called the Looking for Luck edition, partly due to its associated article: Not only did it talk about things that were associated with either good or bad luck, but it also talked about why such things were associated with luck. The best example was the four-leafed clover, which became associated with good luck because the odds of finding one in one try was 1 in 10,000.

---

A similar article talked about common superstitions about actions that cause good or bad luck. One surprising one was that umbrellas were originally meant to protect from the sun in old times, and if you opened an umbrella indoors, you were angering the sun god, who would "rain" down bad luck (which would also explain why Daffy duck got struck by lightning after doing just such a thing in that one Looney Tunes episode). Similarly, the reason why placing a hat on the bed was considered bad luck because, back when priests would visit houses to perform last rights for the dying, they would put their hat on the bed.

---

Another article was more like a comic book (and was even detachable in the physical version), because it was considered part of When Worlds Collide... and talked about the traditions of St. Patrick's Day. In it, a leprechaun causes a bit of mischief in Edo before Hide, Tokichiro, William, and Arthur track it down and corner it. But the reason why it was causing trouble was because Titania, Queen of the Summer Court (here was a sidebar that talked about faeries/fairies, the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, and Oberon and Titania) had been captured by Uruk-Hai, and he'd been looking for someone to help rescue her. While questing to rescue Titania, they also encounter Uruk-Hai and the one who masterminded the kidnapping, the Witch-King of Angmar. While he also was afraid of Sohayamaru, he was using the spirit stones to grant himself a level of protection from it. This makes Hide's fight with him more difficult, but in a perfect deus ex machina moment, Titania's husband Oberon appears and bombards the Witch-King with magical fire, overwhelming his corrupted spirit stones and forcing him to retreat. As thanks for helping him rescue his wife, Oberon promises to aid Hide and the others against Sauron when the time comes, and Tokichiro invites him to attend the upcoming cherry blossoms festival and he accepts.

The final part of the magazine was an article that talked about the special coverages Animalia Ambassadoria would be doing, such as: Miles' coverage of the new features of the Animalia colonies in Australia, including an interview with what the internet had dubbed "the Roid Roos", even though they didn't get their muscles from steroids; and Lexia's special coverage of the cruise ship being donated to Mieni Atoll.
