As Mary munched on her cheese and cracker, she felt odd sensations in her sides. At first she thought it might be her stomach trying to process the cheese, but as soon as she saw four new arms pulling themselves out of her fur, she knew it was the transformation taking place.
They were long, black, and hairy arms. There didn't seem to be any hands to them whatsoever. Mary finally realized what they really were...spider legs!
She felt a weird sensation in her head as well. Her vision seemed to be splitting in more than two ways. Looking at the reflective surface of her toaster, Mary saw that six new eyes had grown across her forehead. They were jet black and eerie to watch. Her vision realigned itself as her brain developed to process eight images simultaneously. She was now a cat/squirrel/canary/spider/woman.
The cracker her hands were holding seemed to grow larger under her grip. She was shrinking once again. Reluctant to lose any more height, she switched to another cracker, hoping this one would change her to a larger animal. She munched a good bit of it down, but it didn't seem to be helping her at all...in fact, it felt like she started to shrink even faster.
Throwing this cracker down as well, Mary thought Of course! Jess has been on a shrinking kick ever since she saw me turn into a catgirl in the first place. She would have picked vials that would make us even smaller. She felt and saw the shrinking come to an end, though a bit too late for her liking. She had lost a substantial portion of her height, and was now in the vicinity of two inches tall.
"Thanks a million, Jess," she said. "Next time, I pick the vial--"
She could scarcely believe her eyes. Jess was even smaller than she was, though before she would have been over twice Mary's size. She happily chewed away on her cracker, taking a moment every so often to have a nibble of cheese. She was at one and a half inches, and slowly dropping. One inch. Half an inch. Her growth stopped as she rubbed crumbs off her fuzzy mouth.
"Ah, that hit the spot," she squeaked. She got up, not even standing as tall as the piece of cheese she had barely touched from her cracker.
"Jess, you idiot," Mary said. "We can't get too small. What if we can't open the vials?"
"Relax," Jess said. "I can still lift fifty times my weight."
"In case you haven't noticed," Mary nagged, "your weight dropped when you did."
"Oh, just bring us back to the vials!" Jess bragged. "I'll show you."
Mary carried Jess on her back as they flew through the house. Jess wouldn't stop cheering and whistling in excitement at the ride. When they got back to Mary's room, Jess jumped onto a vial and started pulling off the cork, which was slightly more than her body's size. She stood at the lip of the vial and gripped the porous cork with all four of her arms.
After a lot of grunting and wheezing, Jess gave up. "Okay, maybe I didn't think about how tightly they were wedged in there."
"Let me try," Mary said. She flew above the growth vial and grabbed the cork of it with her talons. Too easily, the entire vial lifted into the air with her. "Let me try something else," she corrected herself. She placed the vial on the floor and tried to grip its smooth surface with her tiny claws, but the vial was far too large to get her hand around. "You really did it now," the tiny Mary shook her head at the even tinier Jess.
