Jess took a second to think about it, and said, "I think I know what to do." She worked her way to the cork, grabbing hold with her squirrel like claws, and working with her ant like food manipulators, she started to nibble away at the cork.
She looked up at Mary, "This may take a minute. Feel free to fly a few laps around the place." And Jess immediately went back to work on gnawing through the cork, trying to get into the growth vial.
Mary flew around a bit, but eventually came back, and spent some time examining over at the box, examining a few more of the vials. She was currently a nice assortment of animals, a cat/squirrel/canary/spider/woman to be specific. She was trying to plan out her next addition, or even maybe plan out a whole new combo plate of vials to try. She knew Jess wanted to be small, but Mary was sort of leaning towards being bigger, even though she did admit to herself they were having great fun.
She decided to check on Jess, and used her spider legs to walk across to where Jess was.
"So, how goes the nibbling?" Mary asked
Jess stopped her frantic chewing just long enough to say, "almost there". And she had, infact, managed to nibble off almost a third of the cork. She chewed away at a frenetic pace for a few more seconds, and then said, "OK, now can you get it out?"
Mary worked at the cork, trying to work it, and wiggle it, and at first, the vial still followed her, and swas stuck, but just then, it gave.
The growth vial was open! Some of it had spilled out in the process, and Mary moved over, and started licking some of it up.
"Cool," Mary said, realizing the sensation of growing was coming over her body. She started to expand, passing 3 inches, 4, 6, and was able to handle the vial to drink more of the liquid.
"Hey, don't get too big." Jess squeaked.
Mary didn't know how much to take, so a few more small sips, and she stopped drinking. She expanded upward, starting to almost feel normal again. She was slowing as she went up past 2 feet, 3, and stopped at about 4 and a half feet tall. For what she was, she would have been the perfect prop in an old sci-fi flick. Especially being almost 5 feet tall, with spider legs and eyes. In fact, after carefully setting the vial down, Mary wandered over to a mirror, and was taking full inventory of her wings, still somewhat furry cat/mouse legs, and most striking, her spider features. If she wasn't so very absorbed into the changes and the magic at this point, she would have completely freaked. Instead, with her new keen spider-vision, she admired what she was.
"Hey, hey, giganta!!!" Jess was screaming. To Mary, it was just a squeak. "Remember me?"
Mary snapped out of it, and saw tiny little Jess, at maybe a half inch tall. Her furry ant body crawling over to Mary's feet.
"Hold your horses." Mary said, putting her face down to where Jess was.
Mary had thought of a plan. First, she went back and found the human female vial. "It's time for a reset," Mary thought to herself. She chugged the whole vial, and felt everything retracting, her claws, spider legs, wings, and so on. Soon, she was herself again.
Then, she bent down, and let Jess crawl up onto her finger.
"You want to come back up with me, or stay put?" Mary asked.
Jess replied. "No, I like it down here. But can I get some wings?"
Mary obliged. Knowing Jess wanted to stay small, she went back to the insect drawer. She found what she was looking for.
"Here you go. You want to fly, then fly it is." Mary said, opening the Housefly vial, and poured some of it into a nearby glass.
She then tipped the glass, and let Jess walk down into it, and then set the glass back upright and watched. Jess got to the bottom, and the layer of potion was about knee high. She stuck her head down and started slurping it up.
Mary just watched as Jess's tiny little body got more black, insect like features, and sprouted tiny wings.
Jess flew herself out of the glass, and started flying all around, also having fly legs, and compound eyes, alongside her ant features.
"Jessie the flying squirrel. Er, well, flying ant-squirrel!" Mary proclaimed.
Jess flew over, and buzzed around Mary's head, and Jess landed on Mary's hand. "Ooooh...you tickle." Mary said. She held Jess up by her ear to hear what Jess was saying.
"Zzzzo, whatzzz are you doingzzz nowzzz? You goingzzz to fly with meeezzzz?" Jess asked Mary in her half talk-half buzzing voice.
Mary replied, "Well, yeah, I HAVE been thinking about that, I think I'm ready for another round of changes, come over with me, I need some of the vials."
