"Or maybe there's something to eat down here in the stroller basket?", the constable wondered and bowed down to search the storage space below Dani.
"Nah, just diapers and a change of clothes... but look who I found!" She crouched in front of Dani, holding the blanket with the bear head from before. "Is this your favorite blankie?" she asked. Dani instinctively stretched out her arms and pulled the soft cloth close to her body. It was oddly comforting, but not enough to make her stop crying. She noticed her sobs sounded like "Maamaaa!" - at least there was one word she could still say, not that it would do her much good.
"Let's get you out of that stroller, OK?" the constable asked and smiled at Dani. Slowly, she unbuckled the straps, waiting for any reaction from the toddler - but Dani just kept crying, ignoring the woman's hands. The young constable with short black hair seemed well-meaning enough, so Dani allowed herself to be picked up without resisting, hugging her blankie tight. Following an urge she even pressed her face into the constable's shoulder, getting the uniform wet with snot and tears. On the way to the staff room, she calmed down enough to stop crying.
