(going to first person again)
Having the gun still on your back somehow and after so many hours out at sea, you were starting to feel dehydrated and hungry, but you figured that perhaps somehow you would make it out of there. But with the hours passing and yourself getting weary, that hope seemed bleak. However, you thought you heard something just then.
In the distance, you hear the sound of an engine idling in the distance along with a searchlight looking into the night, searching for something in the distance as it keeps going in a 360 degree motion. Only as it comes closer does the light seem to stop, shining brightly on you enough that you have to cover your eyes. At this point, you hear the boat speeding toward your way, the motor growing ever louder, yet you feel too exhausted to do anything about it.
Once the boat arrives, you hear a familiar voice overhead, but the light blinds you from seeing who their silhouette is. "Well, well. Seems like you made it this far. Where's the other guy? Is he with you or did he get changed too?", the female voice says, but you clearly recognize it as Zephyr.
"W-wait... you're...", you murmur out as you reach for the edge of the boat.
"You didn't think I was just going to leave you there forever, did you? I had to make the rendezvous with my contact after all, but I had heard reports that there were some entities leaving the island on the radar... in which case, we don't want any of the contaminated getting back to the mainland. It's your lucky day though, seeing as you haven't already turned...", she chuckles as she helps you out of the water, grabbing your wrist and yanking you with a good amount of force.
You manage to grab onto the edge of the boat with your other hand and lift yourself up. The life ring still around your waist, you keep on there while you catch your breath, your eyes having a hard time staying open, save for the wet and cold reminder of ocean water upon your skin. "S-sorry... about earlier. I didn't think you were coming back."
She grins at you, offering you a large towel, "Then it's lucky you came after me. Though I didn't think you'd make it this far. You must have drifted ten or so miles away from the shoreline. Otherwise I would have assumed you had turned already. There was no point stopping back at the docks just to get infected again, you know. However, now that you're here, the island's on quarantine, meaning no boats or ships going from or coming to there are going to be allowed. Once this current task is done, we're going to be headed back toward base. They believe they may have gotten a sample of the virus isolated for testing."
Still shivering, you wrap the towel tightly around yourself, closing your eyes a bit as you try to bring yourself back up to temperature.
"I'd suggest getting some rest for now to get your strength up. And if you hear a few loud sounds... don't worry, we're just finishing our patrol," she adds as a last statement as you feel yourself starting to drift off now that you're sitting on one of the benches of the boat.
