Chenoa the Deer Girl

added by O 4 months ago A O Mythological

Nina and Jacob sighed, slumping into their easy chairs after putting the twins to bed. While having Caleb home for Spring Break was nice, neither one of their sons was very good at getting the babies to fall asleep. "Nina do you remember the boys being this difficult," Jacob asked.

"Yup," Nina smirked. "Difference between then and now is we're alot older Jacob." Jacob grumbled, stretching as the two parents tried to rest. While neither had the energy they used too, they were managing thanks to help around the house and alot of coffee. "Can I get you some coffee?"

Jacob and Nina glanced wearily towards the voice, giving the golem Daphne a small smile. "Coffee sounds great Daphne thanks," Nina smiled. "You want me to help," Jacob added.

"I got it," Daphne stated, Jacob and Nina once more thanking the golem as she made her way towards the kitchen. Things had been busier around the Moreland home lately with Caleb being home and Connor training future hunters. While it was nice to have everyone back together, the golem did savor nights like this. Caleb was on a date, Connor and Spark were camping out nearby, and the twins had fallen asleep early. Perhaps finally they would have a quiet night.

Daphne paused, gazing out the back window as Connor and his friends now approached. The golem ran a gambit of emotions, confusion, anxiety, and fear as the teen quickly made their way towards the Moreland home. Noticing they had someone with them immediately drew her attention as she now called for Jacob. "What is it Daphne," he asked. Daphne pointing towards the approaching teens as Jacob's eyes went wide in surprise. "Nina," he said. "Connors heading this way. And he has someone with him."

"Any idea who?"

"No," Jacob stated. "But I think it would be a good idea if you hid the venison we have in the fridge."

Making their way inside, Connor now spoke to his parents, explaining how Miles had discovered the Deer Girl in the woods. "I think she only speaks Navajo mom," Connor stated. "Think you can translate?"

"My Navajo is a bit rusty Connor," Nina replied. "But I'll try." Turning to the animated Deer Girl she now spoke, nodding before translating. "She says she's lost," Nina answered. "She got separated from her parents about two weeks ago. She's been scouring the forests since then."

"What's her name?"

Nina spoke to the girl once more before answering. "Chenoa," she replied. "I'm sorry kids but, I'm a bit rusty and Chenoa talks very fast. She's very animated about something but its hard to figure out what."

"Rei do you think you can help," Nat asked. Rei balked, glancing at her girlfriend in bewilderment. "Me," she exclaimed. "How can I help?" Nat now gestured to Rei's spell book, the biracial teen blushing as she opened it. "Oh right sorry," she blushed. "Okay, maybe I can figure something out just give me a second...a ha got something!" Rei now pointed to a page, Nat noticing a spell appear on a previously blank page. Rei's spell book obviously was a bit more powerful than anyone was aware of. Scanning over the page, Rei now muttered a spell, her ring glowing as she gazed at Chenoa.

"I really need your help miss I haven't seen my parents in weeks. I'm so worried I heard about a dangerous man named Ezekiel Kane," Chenoa said quickly.

"Hey we can understand her now."

Chenoa blinked, glancing towards Miles in confusion. "Wait you speak Navajo," she asked.

"Um no," Miles replied sheepishly. "I'm speaking English just like you."

"I don't speak English," Chenoa said quickly. "But you're definitely speaking Navajo!" Chenoa and Miles now turned Rei, one of Deer girls hooves anxiously tapping on the floor as she waited for a response.

"Translation spell," Rei said proudly. "I've been thinking about it alot lately. Especially since I suck at Spanish. I figured this way I could understand what the teacher was saying. Now I don't have to worry about flunking Spanish class." The others now shrugged, appreciating the brilliant, if not unorthodox, reasoning for Rei's spell.

"Chenoa," Nina said softly. "Why don't you have a seat. I can get you something to eat or drink if you like."

"Thank you miss," Chenoa said softly, the girl taking a seat as she anxiously gazed at the assembled group. "So are you wizards," she asked.

"Some of us," Nat replied. "But it's a very diverse group. We have fairies, maras, humans, and I'm a dhamphir."

"And me and Connor are both demon hunters," Miles smirked, now trying to impress the cute deer girl.

"Demon hunters," Chenoa yelled fearfully.

"Easy Chenoa," Nina said softly. "We won't hurt you. My name is Nina Moreland. My husband Jacob and I own this house. This is our son Connor and his friends."

Connor and the others now gave the Deer Girl an awkward wave. "Smooth one Miles," Miranda giggled. "I think you made a really good first impression." Miles simply blushed crimson, once more bemoaning his awful luck when it came to girls.

Chenoa offered a meek wave, eyeballing Miles curiously as the teen blushed. "I've heard of the Moreland family," she said softly. "Our elders hold them in high regard. They are an honorable family, only opposing the darkest parts of the supernatural."

Nat and the others nodded, gathering around the table as Chenoa began to sample the fruits and vegetables Nina laid out for her. Hopefully whatever the deer girl feared could be fixes quickly.
