A blinding flash of light erupted from the screen. Max rubbed his eyes while muttering curse words to himself. Stupid thing was booby trapped. He wouldn’t be surprised if it had a camera hidden inside it that was live streaming his reactions. What did surprise him, was his intact window once his vision cleared up. His mind was doing back flips at what had just happened. With the curser on the screen still blinking just after “WHAT IF…”
Max gingerly set his fingers back on the key and typed. WHAT IF MY CARPET WAS BLACK INSTEAD OF GREY? That same blinding flash dazed Max, but once his eyes regained vision he found himself sitting on a black fiber carpet. Once was happenstance, twice is coincidence, but three times was fact. WHAT IF MY WATCH WAS MADE OF GOLD? This time Max closed his eyes, but the flash was so bright it still took him a second to see afterwards. Reaching over to his side table, Max grabbed his watch which was now made of solid gold. His lips slowly transitioned from a confused quiver to a malicious grin. It worked. The What If machine worked. Now it was time to really use it.
