Gabe loved pulling pranks. He’d loved the TV shows and YouTube channels growing up which focused on playing pranks, tricks, and jokes on people. On its own that wouldn’t be a bad thing, but Gabe tended to take things too far. A few pranks every now and then wasn’t a bad thing, but it seemed like a weekend hardly went by without Gabe pulling some kind of prank. Things came to a head when his older sister, Molly had bought an expensive dress online. It had cost her hundreds of dollars, and she’d been incredibly excited to try it on. After weeks of waiting, it had finally arrived. She had put it on, eagerly headed outside to take some selfies……
And in her excitement, didn’t notice the bucket of water Gabe had carefully propped up above the doorframe. She was absolutely soaked. Gabe, meanwhile, was practically in tears he was laughing so hard. After restraining Molly to make sure she didn’t strangle Gabe, their mother, Jessica, had had enough. “You need to do something about this, mom!” Molly had cried during a private meeting. “He’s doing this every week! It’s out of control!” Jessica had nodded in agreement. “Don’t worry, I’ve got a special punishment for him. Halloween is just around the corner, after all…..”
Halloween morning dawned, and Gabe woke eagerly. Tonight was going to be great! He and his friends already had a list of houses they were going to TP, and then there were a bunch of parties they were planning on dropping by. A bunch of college kids had come home from school this year and were hosting parties, and practically everyone at school was going to be trying to get in. He and his friends figured with so many people there was no way anyone would notice a couple more trying to get in.
He was sure his night was going to be better than Molly’s, that was for sure. Just like last year, she was going to be stuck taking their younger sister, Tara, trick or treating. He laughed to himself, thinking about how bored she’d probably be doing nothing but watch Tara go door to door with a bunch of other kids.
Getting up out of bed, Gabe noticed that it was just past eleven. He’d slept in a bit longer than he’d expected to, and his stomach grumbled. Sliding out of bed, Gabe headed for the stairs. Once he reached the kitchen, though, he stopped, confused. His mother and both sisters were sitting in the kitchen, clearly waiting for him. His mother looked stern, but both Tara and Molly looked like they were about to burst out laughing.
“Gabe, your behavior these last few months has been abysmal. His mom said. “The way you’ve treated your sisters, especially Molly, I’d unacceptable. So instead of Molly taking Tara out trick or treating, it will be your responsibility.” “But—“ Gabe started to protest, only for his mother to cut him off. “No, no buts. This is the first part of your punishment. And, as I’m sure you know, Molly and Tara always wearing matching costumes….and that will not be changing with you.”
It took a second for her meaning to click in, but when it did Gabe’s jaw dropped. “No way!” He said as his sisters burst out laughing. Jessica gave him another stern look. “Yes way, “Gabriella”.” She said. “And if you don’t go along with it, no X-Box privileges….until I say otherwise. I’ve had it up to here with your behavior, and if one night trying to avoid embarrassment is enough to teach you a lesson, then I think that’s well worth it.”
“Okay”, Gabe sullenly replied. He could tell his mom wasn’t backing down on this. “So what do I have to wear?”
His mom turned to Molly. “Molly and Tara picked it out for you. Molly especially did a lot of work.” She said. Molly grinned at Gabe, enjoying watching his clear discomfort. “Well, “Gabby,” you are going to be going as…..”
