After finishing his homework and his chores, Max decides to head to a friend’s house, he takes out his phone and dials the number of his friend Zack, “hey Zack,” he says, when his friend answers, “I am kinda bored, so I was hoping you might have some time to hang out”.
“Sure,” Zack says, “my parents are out and my big sis and brother are both doing something with their lovers. So, we’d have no one annoying us”.
“Cool, I’ll be right over,” Max says, he then ends the call and heads into the hall, “yo, twerp! I’m heading out to Zack’s. Let mom and dad know,” he calls, and not bothered to wait for a reply, Max heads out the house.
Zack lives two houses down of Max’s street, so it does not take long for Max to arrive. Max knocks on the door of his friend’s house, he does not have to wait long, the door opens and he is greeted by the grinning face of his friend, “hey Max,” Zack says.
Max grins back, “hey, Zack,” he replies, “how have you been? We haven’t seen each other for a week”.
Zack does not attend the same school as Max, they only know each other as neighbours, “well… I have been pretty busy,” Zack says, stepping aside to let Max in.
Zack is a 13 year-old boy with short black hair, an olive skin tone, brown eyes and an athletic body, Max follows Zack into the boy’s bedroom. After both sit down on a bean bag in Zack’s “chill area”, Max notices that his friend looks not as joyful as usual, “what’s up, Zack,” he asks, “you kinda look miserable”.
Zack looks at his friend for a while, he then lowers his head and sighs, “we have a “show and tell” day at my school,” he says, “I am the only one without an animal, mom and dad don’t want any animals in the house”.
“Why,” Max asks.
Zack looks at Max, “they simply hate all kinds of animals,” he says, “they always say stuff like “animals are annoying” or “animals are a lot of work”. Blah, blah, blah”.
Max snorts, “you know, there are animals who are not annoying and don’t cause a lot of work,” he says.
Zack rolls his eyes, “dude, I know,” he says, “I have already told my parents that Snakes, Lizards and other reptiles, Bugs, Spiders… are some animals which are silent and do their own thing, you just have to feed them”.
“Let me guess,” Max says, “they stick to their “no animals” thing”.
Zack throws his hands in the air, “bingo!”
Max chuckles, “what kind of animal would you like to have?”
Zack tilts his head, “IF I could have a animal,” he says, “I’d LOVE to have a…”.
