Meanwhile, the Morningstars and their friends and guards were rushing Rachel to the premier hospital in the City of Dis, the Ninth Circle's capital city. Soon, she was in the care of a team of some of the greatest deceased medical minds who had ever lived (as well as some demons with a penchant for medicine).
"She's lost a lot of blood," a doctor sighed to Lucifer. "I think it's only her will to live that's kept her alive this long."
"Can you save her?" asked Lucifer.
"You have to!" Maisy pleaded. "I love her!"
"That love probably kept Lady Tenebra from dying on the spot," the doctor said, "but it will not keep her among us much longer, I fear. Cold iron is toxic to demons, and her wounds have a trace of celestial magic about them."
"Ah, the infamous blades of the Iron Knights..." Michael grumbled. "I've often wondered where those terrorists get them. God would never equip any organization that endangers the peace He values so highly. Not only is His daughter married to Charon, but He loved all four of us Morningstar siblings as if were were his children by blood and mourned the rift between Him and Lucifer for eons. The peace treaty may have angered many Hellish and Heavenly nobles, but it filled God's heart with joy. Even before Penemue was struck by Rev. Church, the Iron Knights have tried God's patience."
"Then who could it be?" asked Baal.
"Probably one of the angelic nobles who opposed the treaty," said Michael. "Kushiel or one of his brutal friends. I cannot yet say which one, only that they will not stay long in Heaven once God and I have answers."
"Whoever gave the dagger to the murderer, a wound to the gut from a cold iron weapon blessed by an angel WILL kill Lady Tenebra," said the doctor. "Unless..."
"Unless what?" Atargatis pleaded.
"Unless she gets Heavenly medicine," said the doctor. "Only angelic doctors can prevent the holy power from destroying Lady Tenebra's body. And I don't mean a departed human doctor like me; you need an actual angel skilled in the art of healing."
Josh looked to Penemue. "Do you know medicine?"
"I know the theory," Penemue said nervously, fidding with her glasses. "I've never actually practiced it."
"Should we risk moving her to a hospital in Heaven?" asked Lilith.
"Or should we bring an angelic doctor down here?" asked Remeila.
"Whatever we do," said Lucifer, "we need to do it fast."
