John is about to respond when a robber came around the corner from the alley. John knew it was a robber because the guy looked like a robber, and toon rules meant he had to be one.
John grabbed Carrie's hand and darted around the shop and into the next alley. Before Carrie could get a word out, John opened the paint and with one dip with the paintbrush, he painted an image. John was surprised to see it was an image of a scientist's house - he knew because it said "Scientist" on the door.
John didn't have time to erase the image and try again, so he grabbed Carrie's hand and dove through and into the image. He glanced back to see the robber attempt to follow and crash into the wall. He once again thanked his love of cartoons.
"How did we do that?" Carrie asked.
"Seriously, you should have watched cartoons as a kid." John looked around. "We've got to be careful, here. It could be anything from Dr. Frankenstein, to Jeckel and Hyde, to Romeo and Juliet."
