John made up his mind to try the scientist's house. He figured it was as safe as any other choice. Carrie let herself be led toward the house, as she knew she wouldn't survive without his knowledge.
A knock at the door produced a booming sound, which was followed by a small hole being opened near the top.
"Oh, hello", a frail-sounding voice came from the hole, "and who might you be?"
"I'm John, and this is Carrie. Could we please come in?"
"Be my guest. I don't get many visitors, out here in the middle of nowhere." The door clicked, and started to open. John glanced around and realised that the man was right - they were in the middle of nowhere. In fact, there was a sign not far away, proclaiming the town to be "Nowhere".
The entered the old man's house, and found him to be wearing a white coat. John was starting to find this all too predictable.
The man, who introduced himself as Dr. Jackal, invited them to his dinner table, where food was already set for three. Carrie expressed her surprise, until John explained it as another toon effect.
John was worried about what the Dr might have put in their drinks, or their food. It was always one or the other, in toons. As a precaution, John demanded that switch drinks with the Dr. He cautioned Carrie not to drink until the Dr did, and he then downed the Dr's drink.
"Oh, dear. That was meant for me." The old scientist mumbled.
John felt his muscles swell. He could literally feel the power flowing into him, and he watched as the room shrank. Carrie screamed and ran for the nearest door. John's back bent as his arms and hands grew larger, and his skin turned a sickly green colour.
His mind suddenly filled with thoughts, of killing and death, of catching the pretty girl and having his way with her, of punishing the Dr for what he had done. He growled inhumanly, and lurched towards Carrie.
