Kushiel Confronted

added 2 months ago O Mythological

Not long after, Kushiel received a summons before God's throne. Warily, he answered. Standing before Jehovah's luminous throne, he knelt before the King of Kings. "I am Yours to command, God."

"There is much I need to know," said God, "and yet much I already know. I know the Iron Knights are now angels and agents of the Heavenly Inquisition. You also said something to Semyaza about wanting to 'crash the wedding,' did you not?"

Kushiel tried not to flinch (and mostly succeeded). Why did God always seem to know things? Did he just automatically know everything even before it happened like the humans said? Did he have someone spying on the Inquisition? Spies spying on spies? "I did all of this, Lord," Kushiel said. "I had good reason, of course. The humans say to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. This is what I have done. In the Inquisition, I can keep an eye on the Iron Knights. the inquisitors will be breathing down their necks at all times."

"But what was this about crashing the wedding?" asked Queen Asherah, who was seated on a throne next to Her husband's.

"I'd like to know more about that myself," frowned Metatron (formerly Enoch the son of Jared), one of Jehovah's most trusted advisors.

"Rev. Church received a peculiar piece of mail from Lilith inviting him to his family's weddings," Kushiel explained. "I have no idea why; perhaps it's the demons' idea of a joke. Either way, I saw an opportunity. Why not allow the Iron Knights to stage an incompetent attack and expose themselves for the traitors they are? Don't worry, my actual inquisitors will ensure their tactics are poor."

"Buy why go behind my back?" asked Jehovah. "I understand you didn't want me to find out."

"Remember the last time a traitor was caught," said Sandalphon (formerly Elijah the Prophet), another of God's closest advisors.

"I am all too aware of how honorable and tenderhearted you are, O Lord," said Kushiel. "I feared that you might not be comfortable with such underhanded tactics."

"No, I fully understand... if your motives are pure," said Jehovah.

"I assure you, Almighty God, my only motive is to see your holy reign thrive," Kushiel lied. In actuality, he wanted nothing more to depose Jehovah and crown the TRUE servant of the Light (himself) as the new God.

"Time will tell," God said pensively, stroking the long platinum beard that grew on His golden face. "In the meantime, you are free to carry on with your plans."

"Thank you, Lord of Lords," Kushiel said unctuously as he stood up and flew off.

Jehovah continued to stroke His beard as He lost Himself in deep thought. Kushiel had always given Him more trouble than even His second son Jove, but it was so difficult (even for cherubs) to prove that the secretive Grand Inquisitor was up to something. More information would be key. Until then, it was best to let Kushiel carry on with his peculiar plan regarding the Iron Knights. In the meantime, He needed to perform a highly complex healing ritual that could only succeed if Cruciata managed to pray to both Him and the Light with true faith. God stood up from his throne and left to go fetch Raphael, a powerful archangel and the chief of the healers.

Kushiel slumped into his chair and sighed. Somehow, God knew far too much... as usual. Kushiel was sure that God had some sort of spies to serve as a check on the Inquisition. To watch the watchers, essentially. Kushiel would have given anything to know the identities of those perfidious spies.

In the meantime, Kushiel opened a communication portal to speak to Semyaza. "The wedding plan's back on. God Himself permitted it."

"I don't know how you managed that," Semyaza smiled, "but congratulations. I'll go inform Baziel and his associates."

Kushiel glanced out of his window and saw a warbling cherub fluttering past. Such annoying creatures! Their cacophonous voices made Kushiel sick, but there was no escaping them! They got everywhere! And yet Jehovah seemed to like them. Wait! That was it! It had to be those pesky cherubs snooping on Inquisition business. Kushiel made a mental note to always check for cherubs before opening his mouth. Once the coast was clear, he opened a portal to instruct Semyaza and his other agents to do the same.
