Semyaza whispered words infused with Chaos as he played eldritch tunes on a sitar. Kushiel wouldn't care for his methods, but Semyaza knew that this was the only way to keep the Inquisition safe. He grinned as he felt an energy envelop the Inquisition's headquarters and spread outward for about a mile. Best of all, this energy field was slightly off-center to make it unclear exactly who had conjured it. It was in fact, centered on Penemue's archives. It was always fun to make Jehovah doubt his own family.
The purpose of this energy was to keep cherubs away while Kushiel plotted against Lucifer and Jehovah alike. Kushiel had deduced that the annoying little warblers were Jehovah's spies. The idea had most likely come from Odin Wayweary, one of Jehovah's advisors. Odin had advised Jehovah's father Anu before him and was one of the few beings besides Jehovah and Asherah who had survived the demise of the previous creation. Odin was down to use a pair of ravens to gather information from around the world.
The energy field was genius. It was filled with a discordant Chaos "melody" that was audible only to cherubs and birds, neither of whom could bear to hear it. They would flee the source in agony and then forget that they had ever encountered it. It would be a while before Jehovah figured out why his spies weren't arriving at the Inquisition's headquarters, and after that the blame would be easy to pin on Penemue or one of her assistants.
A moment later, Semyaza heard the sound of a cherub screaming in pain and flapping its little wings at a feverish pace as it fled. Serves the annoying little bastard right! The spell was proving beneficial already. Things were shaky between the Inquisition and God right now, but things could still be fixed. Kushiel had given Jehovah a plausible explanation as to why he had covertly recruited the Iron Knights without being a traitor, and a lack of bombshells from the cherubs should keep suspicion from mounting. Now Kushiel would be free to interrogate Tarfiel about Enoch Morningstar in peace. The Inquisition needed to know what this odd collaboration was all about... and how to use this to its advantage.
