Kushiel inspected his tools of torture as Tarfiel was dragged before him by Baziel (AKA Rev. Church) and Polytimos (AKA Rev. Cromwell). He had much to learn about her secret meeting with Enoch Morningstar. He wondered to himself why he hadn't had to deal with any cherubs since he warned Semyaza about them. Kushiel shrugged, figuring that Semyaza knew some kind of magic to deal with them (but not quite realizing that Semyaza had used Chaos magic to accomplish this.)
The Grand Inquisitor picked up a saw and approached the captive angel. "Ah, Tarfiel from the Nature Stewardship Corps.," he said with a venomous smile. "You confessed to secret meetings with Enoch Morningstar earlier. I think I'd like to hear more about that."
"What more is there to tell?" Tarfiel asked, trying to sound brave.
"Plenty, I imagine," Kushiel grinned. He grabbed one of Tarfiel's green wings and began to hack and slice at it with the saw, cutting it to the bone. He chuckled to himself as Tarfiel's screams echoed through the dungeon. "Would you perhaps be ready to cooperate now?" Kushiel asked as he wiped bloody feathers off of his hand.
"No," Tarfiel shook her head. "These are things that only God should know about, not you."
Kushiel just kept sawing, slicing the wing clean off. "An angel isn't much good with only one wing, Tarfiel. Would you care to give me the full story? I'm sure it will be quite entertaining."
"No, I know you're no true friend of God's!" Tarfiel screamed, tears streaming down her light green cheeks.
"Then I'll need to give you the special treatment again," Kushiel sighed with mocking sympathy as he picked up the Gauntlet of Nightmares and slipped it onto his hand. He clutched Tarfiel's forehead in an iron grip.
Tarfiel screamed as her head filled with horrible visions of her girlfriend, Himari Yamamoto. The waking nightmares started with Himari slapping Tarfiel and leaving her before they escalated to ghoulish visions of Himari dying gruesome death after gruesome death, ending with Himari's soul being devoured and annihilated by elder Chaos entities.
"I'LL TALK!!!" Tarfiel wept, sinking to her knees and letting her long hair flow over her face. "I was in Japan. I was looking for a bride, and I also decided to check up on Mt. Fuji on behalf of the Nature Stewardship Corps. While I was there, I met a man whose face I recognized as Prince Enoch Morningstar. There was no mistaking it. He has his Uncle Michael's nose... only redder. I assumed he was looking for a wife like me, but he approached me and said that he was investigating someone's plan to tamper with the anti-Chaos ward beneath the mountain. Naturally horrified, I offered to help him get to the bottom of it."
"Demons lie!" Kushiel sneered.
"Some do," Tarfiel admitted, "but the concern in his face looked genuine. Besides, I joined the investigation partially to make sure of his motives. Before long, we discovered that a ritual would be performed beneath the full moon. We snuck beneath the mountain and saw a scene that made my blood run cold. There was a ring of old men who looked almost like corpses, and they wore uniforms from the Imperial Era. In the center of the ring stood Beelzebub and a... a thing. A Chaos spirit! I tried to lunge at it, but the prince held me back, wanting to see more, by the time we finished debating, Beelzebub finished his part in the ritual and left for Hell. We fought off the Chaos spirit and did our best to stabilize the ward. I swiftly returned to Heaven to report to God, but your agents grabbed me before I could reach Him."
"Beelzebub!" Kushiel spat. "So Hell IS plotting to destroy us all with Chaos! I knew the demons' minds were all poisoned by its black tendrils!"
"Does this mean that I can give God my report?" Tarfiel asked hopefully.
"Of course not, you idiot!" Kushiel growled. "You just let Beelzebub finish his ritual and escape to safety! It's a miracle your failure didn't destroy the Earth!"
"It's not my fault!" Tarfiel pleaded. "Prince Enoch held me back!"
"That does not change the fact that you failed," Kushiel frowned. "You put too much trust in Enoch Morningstar (as God once did with the demon prince's father), and he spoiled everything (as his father also did in ancient times). You shall be duly punished. According to my report to God, you are being held for selling state secrets to Nergal's secret police. As far as He know's you're a filthy traitor."
"What do we do with her?" Baziel asked excitedly.
"Tie her to the stake and give her fifty lashes," Kushiel ordered coldly. "You can then throw her into a maximum-security dungeon cell until I'm ready to execute her."
"Yes, sir!" Baziel nodded gleefully.
Baziel and Polytimos dragged Tarfiel into the whipping chamber. Tarfiel thought of Himari, sadly wondering if she'd ever see the beautiful, kind Japanese girl again. It certainly didn't seem like it.
