Miles couldn’t believe how munch money they had spent to reserve their spots in New Atlantis. It had cost them almost all the money in their bank account including the money they had been saving for their upcoming wedding. All that money had bought them only a basic transformation package and a share of a three-bedroom apartment in the city itself. At least they owned 1/3rd of the apartment but still they were downgrading from the condo they owned together, they had to sell that as well.
“Kara…we are almost here.” Said Miles as he shook his wife awake, she had been sleeping in the passenger seat of the rented car. They had sold their car as well to pay for everything, but they wouldn’t need it anyhow. So many people where doing what they where doing that the rental car company actually had a return center at the surface building for New Atlantis.
The building which sat on a small island in the Florida Keys looked like a multiple layer warehouse from the parking lot. However, if the photos where true most of the building was actually underground with whole levels being set aside for those going through the change.
“I wish we didn’t have to do this.” Said Kara as she looked down at a small patch of still flesh color scales on her knee cap. Miles had a patch of scales, flesh color as well on his inner calf.
Like you, Kara was only 26 years old and a college grad, you had gone in engineering while she was had her nursing license. Your future together looked great, then the mermaid virus came around.
“Better here then the camps.” Stated Miles, while the government had started to get a better handle on the mermaid virus and tending to those who where transforming it was still the government. That meant they where slow and didn’t change fast. “Maybe in a few years we will be able to turn back into humans.”
That was the hope, it always was but the way the media was talking the goal was to stop the spread which was going at a steady but increasing rate and then work on a cure, which some now openly said would be next to impossible.
“Yes.” Said Kara as they walked into the center, holding each other’s hands.
Within a couple of minutes they found themselves in a medical room with what looked to be something like a cat scanner in the middle.
“Please remove your cloths and lie down and we will take your scans to document your change.” Stated a doctor as Miles lied down first.
“Miles Brown…sex male, age 26, height 6,2 weight 190 pounds, Race White, ancestry British” stated the doctor “Eye color blue, hair blonde. Penis size-5.9”
The doctor read off some more details, down to the length of his arms, legs and his muscles mass which wasn’t bad.
“Kara Lefeld…sex female, age 26, height 5,4 weight 130 pounds, race white, ancestry German.” Stated the doctor “Eye color green, hair brown, breast size-B cups….”
The doctor read off her details as well and once done they didn’t get back into their cloths. Instead special swimsuits where given to them. Both suits where in the designs of a women's one piece swimsuit or maybe more like a wetsuit.
"Why is mine like this?" inquired Miles as he pulled his up to cover his chest.
“Because around 50% of all men transform into mermaids and so if you start growing breasts they are covered. They are designed to rip apart once your tail comes in and expand or contract if you should grow or shrink.” Stated the doctor “A nurse will show you to your room.”
“And what do we do there?” inquired Kara
“Whatever you please, you can go to the bar and enjoy some drinks, go to one of the pools for a swim or relax in a hot tub.” Explained the Doctor “You can also have some private time together or….”
“Doesn’t any of that, well besides the drinks speed up the change?” inquired Miles
“Yes, but there is already no stopping the change, some people want to get it over and done with.” Explained the doctor as he turned to leave. “Good luck.”
