As Agent Francis now contacted his colleagues, Caleb now took a moment to talk with Spark. Although he wanted Spark to be happy, he could tell the relationship with his brother was affecting her work. "So seems like you and Connor have been pretty busy this year."
"Pretty much," Spark shrugged. "Between the shade, Ezekiel Kane, some mad scientist, and now this we've been swamped. Still, me and Connor have made a great team." Caleb nodded, the hunter quiet as Spark studied him carefully. It seemed like Caleb had alot on his mind. "Bet you're having a ball though," she said. "Big college man, enjoying keg parties and the like."
"I wish," Caleb sighed. Spark now cast Caleb a curious look. "You want to talk about it?"
"I've been busy," Caleb sighed. "And you know what you were saying about wanting to spend time with Connor. I completely get it. Gloria almost died this past year."
"Wait what," Spark exclaimed. "How?!"
"Witches coven," Caleb sighed. "Turns out a sorority was acting as a cover for a coven of witches that would steal the youth of those rushing it. Gloria actually tried rushing that sorority in the fall."
"You're joking," Spark gasped. "You have to be! I mean Gloria rushing a sorority? Since when?"
"Surprised me too," Caleb smirked. "Especially when I told her about a rumor of a witches coven around Providence. But, she got caught up in it. I spent most of the semester trying to find them with Gloria's help. When I found out, it was almost too late. Broke into an abandoned building where they were conducting the ceremony. As powerful a wizard as she is she was at their mercy. Rescued her and burnt the place to the ground. She doesn't think it was a big deal, but I know better."
Spark simply gawked at her partner, how had she not heard about this? "She okay now?"
"Yeah and she didn't join the sorority," he grinned. "But, I've never been so scared in my life. I was so worried I would lose her I lost my cool. I rescued the pledges and leveled the building. After brutally killing the witches inside." Caleb took a deep breath, rubbing his eyes before glancing at Spark. For the first time Spark could see just how much the weight of being the latest in a line of demon hunters was. "When you talk about worrying about Connor believe me I get it. The way you feel about my brother is the way I feel about Gloria. Dad was right this isn't an easy life."
"Sorry," Spark said softly.
"Its alright," Caleb said softly. "After that I've been trying to keep Gloria out of my work. She wants to be around though, which helped when we dealt with a cult trying to summon an ancient demonic God. Still, i worry about her all the time."
"Sounds like we've both been busy," Spark replied, causing Caleb to chuckle softly. "Hey Spark," he said. "You know I've been thinking lately. Why can't we all work together?"
"What do you mean like a team," she asked. "Thats never happened before. Usually there's only one hunter in a family. I've never seen a family with multiple hunters."
"Times are a changing," Caleb said. "And I've seen how well Connors been training both Miles and Aaron. What's to stop all of us from working as a team? It'd allow us all to be around one another." Spark paused rubbing her chin before offering her partner a mischievous smirk. "You know your brother maybe smarter but you certainly aren't a slouch in the brains department."
"I'll take that as a compliment," Caleb smirked.
"Hey do you guys hear that," Dave called. Everyone quieted, straining their ears as they listened. Slowly the group realized it sounded like someone. "I hear it," Miles exclaimed. "Someone's calling for help. It'sprobablyChenoa's parents!"
Caleb frowned, unholstering his weapon as he loaded a clip of ammo coated in white ash. "No they're not," he said softly. "That's not human. It's not even a Deer person."
"It's a skinwalker," Spark gasped. The group now anxiously found themselves gazing into the forest, listening as the call crept closer and hoping the others would arrive to help soon.
