Jack woke up. He had been having the nightmare again. The one where he turned back into a human and had to return to the world of humans.
He shivered, cuddling closer to his mate. She reasponded by giving her tail a half wag and nuzzling next to him.
There were times when he wondered what kind of a life he would have had as a human. But he never wondered for long. He hadn't given up at all, and he reminded himself of that. He had simply chosen a different path than most people - one that most people didn't have the option of choosing. He found that he was a better and more humane person as a wolf than he had ever been as a human.
He had a mate he loved, two pups he adored, and he wouldn't trade it for the world - even if he found some magic that could turn him back into a human. He was a happy wolf, free of all the foolishness that humanity liked to impose on all of its members.
He was glad he had been "cursed," because in that curse he had found his freedom. He had found himself, and for the first time in his life he finally belonged somewhere, he finally made a difference and was needed.
