"Lisa Clark."
Kim gasped, her face turning pale.
"Someone you know?" Jess asked.
Kim closed her eyes and swallowed. "Y-You know, those bullies I told you about? She was the ringleader."
The other Nymphs listened in horror as Kim described her experiences. Several moments of awkward silence followed, broken only by Kim's sobs as Beth cradled her in her arms.
Gone. All of her plans for revenge. All gone! It was obvious now, the universe hated her. To build up her hopes after so many years of suffering only to dash them like this, could there be any other conclusion?
"Talk about rotten luck," Jess muttered, only to clap a hand over her mouth at Sally's glare. Meanwhile, Beth cast the other two a meaningful look as she stroked Kim's hair. Sally nodded and stood.
"I suppose I'd better go meet the newcomer. Come along, Jess. I get the feeling I don't want to deal with her alone."
The two left the room and headed towards the lobby.
"To be honest, I don't think I'm gonna like this girl," Jess grumbled. "Bullies like her don't deserve this kind of luck."
Sally sighed. "I totally agree, but it's not our place as mentors to treat people differently based on our personal feelings. I don't always like the clients I work with in court, but I put it aside and do my job. I suggest you do the same."
"I know, I get it. But I can't help but think there's something more going on here. Two Nymphs at the same time? From the same college? And the same dorm room? The virus isn't contagious, and Nymphs are supposed to be the rarest of the rare. So how is this even remotely possible? It's not possible, is it?"
"It must be, because it just happened." Reaching the door to the lobby, Sally paused. "Look, Jess. I'm suspicious about this, too. But we can't let our feelings show. For now, we just need to keep our eyes open. Maybe we'll catch some kind of clue. Alright?"
"Got it."
