Upon entering the lobby, both Nymphs were greeted by quite a scene. A group of frantic doctors and nurses crowded near the front desk, an empty wheelchair nearby. At the center of the chaos, an attractive college girl stood looking rather peeved.
"But Miss!" One of the doctors was saying. "If you had just gone to the hospital when you detected the symptoms, none of this would've been necessary. These precautions were for your safety as well as the safety of others. What if you'd become something like a fire elemental and set your dorm on fire?"
"Oh, like I'd EVER become some nasty thing like that!" The girl snorted. "Look at me! I'm just fine! I definitely don't need to be dragged here against my will or jabbed with needles and treated like some cripple. You have no idea who you're messing with. When I get out of here, I'm gonna make sure my daddy shuts this whole place down!"
"Lisa, I presume," Sally sighed.
"Lovely," Jess mumbled back. "Let's get this over with."
Striding over, the Nymphs experienced a bit of satisfaction when Lisa caught sight of them and instantly fell silent.
Offering her hand, Sally put on her best professional smile. "Hello, Lisa. My name is Sally, and this is Jess. We're glad you arrived here safely."
Ignoring the hand, Lisa finally recovered from her gawking. "You...You're Nymphs, too, right?"
"Correct," the lawyer replied, her hand withdrawing. "We're also available to mentor you if you'd like. We can walk you through what to expect and help you deal with your changes."
The girl did not seem to be listening. Instead, a look of pure avarice had entered her face. "Knew it," she said to herself. "I'm gonna be gorgeous."
"Look, kid," Jess spoke up. "You need a mentor or what?" Sally jabbed her with an elbow.
Lisa waved a dismissive hand. "Who needs that? I'll be just fine. I did all my research already. In fact, I've seen stuff on you two before." She pointed at Sally. "You're the one with light powers. You heal people and make things grow." Then, at Jess. "You have shadow powers. You kill plants and do other creepy stuff."
"Impressive," Sally complimented. "Did you do all that reading on the way here?"
Lisa grinned. "I'm a fast reader."
"Then, I'm sure you're already aware that another Nymph just came from your college not too long ago. A few days ago, in fact. Amazing, isn't it?"
The smug expression on Lisa's face slipped, and she looked honestly surprised. Then, it passed, and she gave a shrug. "Yeah, so?"
"Well, such a coincidence is quite stunning. I'm sure you're quite proud to be part of history in the making."
"Sure, whatever. Look, these idiots took my phone. When am I going to get it back? And when can I get out of here?"
Sally tried to seem apologetic. "Sorry, but you won't be able to leave until your changes are finished. It's the law. But, if you cooperate with the doctors and do what they tell you, I'm sure you'll be allowed to leave as soon as possible. Your phone will be returned to you then as a matter of privacy."
The girl let out a breath. "Fine." Walking over to the wheelchair, she slumped into it. Her accompanying doctor mouthed a "thank you" to Sally as they wheeled Lisa away.
