Jeff had no reservations about turning his father's persona into a friend instead. It was what he wanted to do 10 minutes ago but the original AI seemed to be sentimental or something and with his father's voice, it was really hard to disregard.
While back in the package going back over 'Mikey's' details, the AI explained that the "control over internal systems" lets the AI have more direct access to emotional and non-emotional responses... It's used by the different AI's in different ways, such as enhance or suppress hunger, augment focus, or make sure he gets a decent amount of sleep after working out or before a big day, for example. It allows for guidance with less conversations. The external system control lets the AI move your body. The AI can literally do a workout routine for you or write down the details relevant to a situation you are investigating while you are looking elsewhere.
Jeff turned on both options at Mikey's recommendation but ensured they are both requiring consent. Mikey asked that Jeff drop Mikey's age down to mid 20's instead of mid 40's, admitting that engaging with Jeff from a middle aged paternal standpoint was really cramping his style. Jeff was happy to oblige and was even happier when he got to recreate the internal voice, moving away from his dad's voice and mannerisms to a lighter more youthful one. Jeff picked Allen to identify the AI as, hopefully severing all the former association's to his dad.
Finally, he shied away from and removed the mundane directives he had initially included, like helping with schoolwork and changed "be more responsible" to "have fun responsibly". Jeff realized that with the personality not taking on the role of mentor, he should probably be more explicit about it being Jeff's goal to learn what the personality can pass on so he can become a more capable adult, so there was some heavy handed tweaking involved with the goal directives to that end.
Jeff updated the settings feeling the now familiar buzzing in his brain, before asking 'What next Allen?'
'Aw, sweet. May I?' came the lively, younger sounding response.
'Go ahead?' Jeff thought, unsure how to give control. Jeff was suddenly the passenger in his own body watching as the AI began navigating the pages and clicking things, even his eyes focusing was out of his direct control, words were basically being shoved into his perception as Allen began to set things up...
Jeff watched as Allen navigated to the mental side of the Chronivac and turned on the "read my mind features" selecting Allen as the 'person' to read from. Jeff's body leaned back as pages flew by and settings adjusted. "I'm sensing that you're feeling a little apprehensive Jeff." Allen said out loud with Jeff's mouth, "Here, check this."
Slowly, Jeff's reservations shifted more toward excitement, "Yeah," Allen commented proudly, "That was me buddy. I got you!" Jeff was suddenly hit with a wave of, what he could only describe as fraternal comradery, and it just made sense that he was in good hands and would be able to have fun tonight...
"Seeing that this is our first time, I really wanted to showcase a large gambit of possibilities. You pulled out all the stops so I can help you however you need me, emotionally, physically, or just audibly. I'm dying to tell you everything but I don't want to ruin the surprises and fun I have in store for you!" Jeff could feel the elation and anticipation boiling off of Allen which amped up Jeff's excitement without Allen even needing to manipulate his emotions.
A moment later the screen flickering stopped and Jeff's profile minimized... "Whew... Okay... AHH... Alright, here we go! Are you ready?" Allen asked Jeff out loud using Jeff's voice.
Jeff was caught off guard, Allen sounded nervous... "I'm good, are you?"
'I just really want to impress you, this is our first time out together, so I have like "first date" jitters or you can think of it as a class presentation and I really want to blow you away.'
"Aww, you're so sweet!" Jeff said with a mocking chuckle.
'Eh, shut up and click submit.' Allen said with a dismissive blush of embarrassment, Jeff couldn't see Allen but since it was all happening in Jeff's brain, strong emotions seemed to bleed through both directions and Jeff could feel Allen's giddy excitement mixing with his own rising curiosity.
Jeff smirked already feeling his relationship with Allen growing and clicked the button to save the settings, Jeff's whole body tingled for a moment and then it faded, he was still in his room. He went to the bathroom and looked at himself in anticipation, he was the exact same, not noticing anything happening at all. He even still needed a shower, and was wearing a random t-shirt and shorts, casual but not good for going out. Jeff was a bit disappointed but feeling Allen's excitement going wild. "Alright? So now what's gonna happen?" Jeff asked.
'Alright, so, you just need to remember two things. First thing... "I'm tired and want to go home." You will appear in your room, and can immediately go to bed. Second thing... "I'm bored and want something different." The setting will change and you will be in a new environment. I pre-loaded 5 situations to ease you into socialization. If you feel like you have a grasp on the situation and its become boring, Just say the words and you'll go to the next scenario.'
'So if I say those words now...'
'...our journey will start and we can stop whenever you're done.'
"Jeff, dinner!" Mom called up the stairs.
"Thanks, be right down." Jeff replied instinctually.
'Not to worry, while you're gone reality will accommodate your absence cause I got you! Or you can go downstairs and have a normal evening.' Allen whispered
