Jeff (or Jay, as he was also sometimes called) took the decision to wait a few days before making any more decisions. He noted down in a notebook the sort of things he could wish for. Yet as the days passed, he started as well to feel remorse for the fate he had condemned Kevin to. Perhaps it had been a bit harsh? To be turned into a chicken destined to lay eggs and to finish killed to be eaten... Sure, he was a brainless jerk but it seemed a little too much. To have his head chopped off after spending two years a in a tight cage with only real chicken to live with, with no conversation to be had, no entertainment and knowing that the day would inevitably come that he would stop laying eggs and get his head cut off... To see other chickens near him being sent to this fate, a mere cog in a large heartless machine, while he waited this turn, knowing his new life was awful and that death was terrifying but might be better... And to know all the while what awaited him... Yes, it was quite awful of Jeff to think it was an appropriate punishment. He should have thought about it more thoroughly. He could have done a more poetic punishment. His guilt was racking his brain without stopping so after three days, he rubbed the lamp and asked the genie to alter Kevin's punishment. He'd get a new life based on his desire to harm others and on his supreme arrogance, as when he boasted that he was a gift to womanhood, but with a humiliating twist. But it wouldn't be as cruel as being a chicken with self-awareness. Hew made his new wish to the genie, sacrificing his second wish for Kevin. The genie did smile, saying he was glad Jeff was not as mean as his own bully and that his conscience had still caught up with him. The genie's approval felt better than a wish to Jeff and he had added that Kevin should not remember his terrible experience as a chicken to avoid trauma. And with a clap of his hands, the genie sent away Kevin to his new and better life, even if still had a few nasty surprises in store for him. He had been an arrogant bully, after all.
