Mary felt a pain above her rear and attempted to stand up on her hind legs. Her back was no longer in the proper shape to do so, however, as she discovered when she landed back on the ground with a grunt.
She looked around and realized she had somehow wandered outside during her sleep.
I've got to get back inside! she thought to herself. I can't let anyone see me like this!
As she ran on all four paws to her front door, she found it difficult to balance her body. She tripped on the front steps and landed in a flower bed, crushing weeks of hard work.
Having no time to concern herself with flowers, Mary tried to reach the door with her paws. It took some doing, but she managed to turn the knob and get back inside her house. She headbutted the door closed.
The pain in her behind flared up again. She attempted to crane her neck to look at the source of the trouble, and saw something thin, brown, and furry wriggling between her legs. As it grew longer and a tuft of red hair appeared on its tip, she realized it was her tail.
"Those vials really work!" she said to herself, both amazed and horrified. "But this is probably not the time to be a lion. I've got human things to do."
She slunk over to the vials in the hope that she could find one that had a picture of a human on it. While she was attempting to maneuver her large paws between the thin rows of vials, she felt her scalp begin to tingle.
Within seconds, hair crept down over her field of vision. It wasn't the regular hair she was used to, however. These strands were fiery red. The hair grew thick over her head, and the tingling on her neck, down her back and under her chin told her that it was growing there as well. Before a minute had passed, Mary had an impressive mane whose wavy locks proudly shone bright red.
"I'd better find that vial quick before anything else happens," Mary worried.
