A few minutes pass and the teacher arrives back in his classroom with a sigh, "It seems their parents have fallen off the map, or at least aren't associated with their children anymore."
"What does that mean?" Asks Hannah.
"It means they're up for adoption!" Says Abbey. The class cheers, every single student wants a pet, or two.
"Wait," says Mr Jackson, "We need to make sure our boys are fine with it too."
"They're dogs now," says Abbey, "They don't have a say."
"They're still human underneath," replies Luke in disgust.
"For now..."
"So are they going to cost anything to adopt?" Asks Mitchell.
"No. It'd seem wrong to essentially sell them," replies Mr Jackson.
"So they're free?"
"Guess so."
The class all start texting their parents/guardians whether they can keep a dog or two. After several minutes of anguish and happiness.
