Elizabeth befriended Leah due to their shared experience of being so short. They’d both been teased relentlessly before about how no one would find them attractive and asking if they were actually teenagers. Someone had even managed to put an entire pack of diapers in their lockers. They had resisted the taunts and harassment together so she was pretty surprised to see her friend willingly act like a toddler.
To get the answers she wanted she knew she’d have to speak with Leah. “Miss Tina do you mind if I hang out with Leah for little while?” Elizabeth asked as Tina shrugged.
“I don’t mind but she might not be interested in doing anything grown up,” Tina said as she got off her chair, “Would you like me to bring some snacks?” Tina asked as she made her way into the kitchen.
“Sure, thanks,” Elizabeth said as she made her way to Leah’s room. Elizabeth hesitated for a moment wondering if her friend would even want her to see her. Gathering her courage she knocked on the door, “Leah it’s me Elizabeth can I come in?” She asked.
After a few moments of silence she heard her friend respond, “Come in!” Leah said excitedly.
Elizabeth opened the door and noticed how different everything was. Her room was a bright pink color with pin up Disney Princesses. Leah’s bed had been replaced with a large crib filled with little plushies, and she had toddler toys that were bright, colorful, and simple. If she really didn’t know any better she’d say this was an actual toddlers room. Leah herself was dressed in a bright green dress covered in sparkles that just barley covered her diaper along with her hair in cute little pig tails.
“Lizzy it’s so good to see you!” Leah exclaimed as she gave her friend a big hug.
“Leah what’s going on why are dressing up like toddler? Why are you acting like one?” Elizabeth asked confused barely able to believe her headstrong and stubborn friend was acting this way.
“No one will ever treat me like an adult. The two of us look like little kids to everyone.” Leah stated with a tired frown. “What’s the point of being an adult if no one will acknowledge that? Besides it’s fun being a little girl with no real responsibilities,” Leah said happier than before. She grabbed some dolls and held one out to Elizabeth.
“Wanna play dollies?” Leah asked reverting back into her toddler speak.
“Okay sure,” Elizabeth said as she accepted the doll. While the two played Elizabeth thought about everything Leah said and wondering if being a toddler really was as fun as Leah said.
