Why are there so many options in this program? Jeff was starting to panic.
A prompt appeared at the top of the screen. "Warning: Jeff Mitchell profile parent links have been deleted. Automatic repair will occur in twenty minutes if manual update not made."
Well, that made sense...he couldn't exist without parents. The machine must have a failsafe. And he didn't want to know what automatic repair would bring.
The profiles on the screen were in order of deletion time...Ashlyn, Kaylee, Ricky, Leo, Greg, Jenny, Peter, Kara, Michael, then Judy.
Had he read the help section, he would have learned how to avoid what came next...The program really was too complicated. But he just clicked on each of the names in no particular order, and hit automatic restore, letting the program set the details of restoration.
The effect was immediate. Reality blinked, and before Jeff knew it, his mother was standing next to him. But...not... It was still his mom, but she not only was dressed like a teenager...she looked like one. He almost didn't recognize her. He stared at her. "You're back, but..."
Judy looked at him. "Back...from where? And what's that program on your computer? Do you have cameras everywhere? I mean...if you are some kind of pervert..."
He hit the key combination to lock the computer...something he should have done before. "Umm...do you know who I am?"
"Jeff," she said. "What kind of a question is that? Are you feeling all right?"
"Something happened....I need to know...who are you? How do you know me?"
