Although the plastic distorts vision slightly, you cannot make out the figure of Maya through the layers. You assumed she would come through right behind you. You could still make out the silhouettes of what you assumed were the guards in the distance, their bulky suits making them seem more like blobs to your vantage point, but in the scanning area, thus far you could see no one. Did they take Maya somewhere else for decontamination?
"Proceed to the shelter!" You see a guard beyond the lock-down door wave you through. Although you are tempted to wait for Maya, the harried guards have no patience for your niceties. Upon being ordered again, you turn and make your way towards one of the many shelters the facility had located throughout its structure. Naturally, since it housed so many dangerous creatures, it took adequate precautions. At least, it normally did.
"--to destroy all the progress we've made thus far! You cannot just kill the subject without giving us a chance to--" You enter the shelter room to the sound of Greg desperately yelling at Robin.
"The protocols are clear in the event of breach!" Robin cuts him off coldly. "Maintaining the security of the facility comes first. We cannot afford to take the risk."
"Progress cannot occur without risks! We are so close, and you want us to just give up? Are you really trying to find a cure or are you--"
"Greg!!" you put your hand on his shoulder and firmly pull him back. "Calm down! This is accomplishing nothing!"
Greg, obviously distraught, shakes off your hand and gives you a frenzied look before stalking angrily out the door. Robin, more concerned with the loose test subject, ignores his tantrum and your presence, focusing on managing the assets being dispatched to deal with the escapee. You consider trailing Greg, but you are fairly certain where he is going. Luckily, the test rooms are not in the same wing of the facility that housed the beasts, so as long as the lock-down area remains safely quarantined, Greg could still visit his daughter, even though he technically should be in the shelter room. Instead, you start to mentally review your observations from the experiment and write down notes. Time passes, and you reach the part in your notes where the subject escaped. That's when you look up.
You scan the shelter room for a familiar face, but fail to find it. Walking outside the door, you look up and down the hallway, to no avail. Worried, you re-enter the shelter room and approach Robin.
"Have you seen Dr. Maya Leuwen? She was with me when we were sent to decontamination but she hasn't shown up at the shelter," you ask Robin, concerned.
Just then, the red emergency lighting goes on and sirens start beeping. The shelter room door begins to automatically lower.
