The Magic Shop

Akira gets advice from the other timeline

As Jacob Moreland now inspected the grounds of the high school, he couldn't help but feel odd. This place was a mirror image of the one his boys attended, yet was completely foreign at the same time.

"Do you think you can help Mr. Moreland?"

Jacob turned, rubbing his chin as he gazed at Akira. That the kitsune had asked for his help was still shocking to the retired demon hunter. "Shouldn't be a problem," he said. "I see you installed a bunch of protection spells around the grounds." Akira tilted his head, curiously looking over the one armed hunter. "I wasn't aware you had a proclivity towards magic?" Jacob chuckled, holding up a small medallion that now glowed softly. "I don't but I have enough runes on me to show when a spell is active."

Akira nodded, the pair proceeding with their tour of the school grounds. During Akiras last visit to the Harris home, he had talked with Cole Harris, a former rival turned friend who was the father of Yuriko. It was during those conversations that he learned of Sgt. Harris's new position as an agent within a government agency that dealt with the supernatural. With the actions the One Humanity had taken so far, Akira felt it would be prudent to seek as much help as possible to secure the safety of the school. "So do you think you and this agency of yours can help?"

"I'll talk with Sarah," Jacob stated, the hunter grunting as he now stood from where he was kneeling. "As far as surveillance equipment? Shouldn't be a problem. Still, trying to explain all this is gonna be tough."

"I take it you were not aware of this timeline," Akira stated.

"Can't say that I was," Jacob replied. "Honestly though it doesn't surprise me. There are enough realms out there that a timeline that's almost an exact duplicate of where I'm from shouldn't be out of the ordinary." Jacob now paused, watching as Shay and Ayami now approached, the succubus and nekomata in their natural forms. "Now that's something you don't see everyday."

"We finished our sweep," Ayami stated, the succubus pushing her glasses up her nose as she gazed at Akira. "Even had Rexie test it. She can't get through." Akira nodded, a small smile cracking on his vulpine features. "Thank you Ayami," he said as he turned to Shay. "Shay this is Jacob Moreland. I've asked for his assistance in improving security."

Shay smiled, Jacob noting the cat woman's seductive walk as she approached. "A pleasure," she purred, her white tail swishing back and forth. "Akira never mentioned he was on speaking terms with a demon hunter. And a handsome one at that."

"Worked with Akira in the past," Jacob stated, the hunter eyeing the flirtatious nekomata carefully. "And I appreciate the comment. The Mrs. thinks so as well."

"Oh you're married," Shat said in surprise, stepping closer to Jacob to gaze into his eyes. "She's a lucky woman."

"With a bit of a temper," Jacob smirked. "And as lovely as you are Miss if she found a cat hair on me, she'd shoot us both." Shay sighed, nuzzling up to Akira as she gave him a passionate kiss on the cheek. Although Akira seemed unmoved by Shays show of affection, Jacob could clearly see Ayami become angry. The succubus skin turning crimson as she grit her teeth. As the pair now departed in opposite directions, Jacob raised an eyebrow at his kitsune companion. "I think you have bigger concerns than security Akira."

"Bigger concerns," he asked, raising a furry eyebrow.

Jacob nodded, studying the five tail kitsune carefully. "Just how long have you and that succubus been together," he asked. "Three years," Akira replied, still confused by Jacob's question. "But I fail to see how my relationship with Ayami could be a concern?"

Jacob simply shook his head. Being married to Nina for 30 years had taught him that the quickest way to anger a spouse was to not spurn the advancements of another woman. It appeared Akira hadn't learned that lesson just yet. "I'll give you some friendly advise," he said. "Be careful how you deal with Shay."

"I value her opinion," Akira stated. "And she knows I am committed to Ayami."

"But does Ayami know that," Jacob asked. "Look all I'm saying is that Ayami looks young."

"She's an adult and I do not understand why her youth would be an issue."

"Not saying it is," Jacob countered. "But I'll give an example. When my wife was around Ayami's age I ended up working with a very attractive, very mature woman. Simply put, Nina got jealous. Thought there was something between me and that woman when there wasn't. It was her own insecurities and my own thick headedness that led to a massive fight. Save yourself a headache Akira, talk with your girl."

Akira paused, thinking over his relationship with Ayami. He had not considered that Ayami would be jealous of Shay. He had no romantic feelings for the nekomata and thought Ayami understood that. "I appreciate the advice Mr. Moreland," he sighed. "Perhaps I should talk with my beloved to put her fears at ease."

"Just call me Jacob," he grinned. The two warriors nodding in agreement as they continued their inspection.
