Darren once again entered his study unprepared for the mental turmoil this crossroad was causing him. Without options, he didn't need to make decisions. And without decisions, he never needed to confront what he wanted. "I'm fucking shit up," he snarled in frustration at himself.
Darren could immediately turn Jeff into a loving wife, none the wiser. He could set them up with an ideal life, give them both well-paying jobs, and even make himself young enough to start a family. If that was truly his priority, he'd have at least tried for it when he thought that he only had one life to live, right? Although the mere thought of picking up and doing "the grind" for another 30 years was not alluring in the slightest.
Darren stepped back into his hidden room where he activated the protocols to indicate that he was going underground and would be off the grid indefinitely. His burner phones had forwarding activated, and his data transferred to some nebulous entity up the chain.
He never needed the money he got from working, and his family's existing wealth management strategy had far exceeded the standards expected from his employment. With a heavy sigh, he realized he had just essentially retired.
Accessing Jeff's profile he began working; he set Jeff up to bathe daily and gave him a powerful drive to leave no trace of his presence, be it a nature walk or simply putting shit back where he found it when done using something. Finally, he made Jeff significantly bolder, Darren couldn't stand timid indecision and didn't want to have to break him down and rebuild him to teach him that hesitation costs lives. Honestly, Darren suspected that those things would be enough to make the pair get along swimmingly.
Darren applied these changes immediately. He heard Jeff walk past, probably struck with a sudden urge to make sure he had made his bed this morning or to take a shower.
