Sharon laughed, the 9 year old racing barefoot through the play area. She couldn't remember having this much fun.
It seemed so odd for the grown down adult, she remembered being a grown up. She recalled being tired all the time, worrying about work, her figure, a few greys, even a wrinkle or two. Then she found Alice and her magical dice. With every roll Shaton felt better and better. Being 20 was fun but being a teenager was better. Sharon recalled what it felt like when she returned to her teens. The world felt new, every experienced heightened with a renewed sense possibilities. It was like she was experiencing things for the first time. Still, nothing could have prepared her for this.
If you had told Sharon as an adult she would be reduced to a 9 year old girl, she would have screamed. Who would want to be that young. The next thing she knew, she was that 9 year old girl along with Nicole and Lena. Now, she wondered why she hadn't wanted to do this in the first place.
It felt wonderful being a child. She was energetic, full of life with none of the responsibilities that weighed so heavily on adults. Whatever she could imagine, she could be. Their would be time for grown up stuff years from now. Right now all she wanted to do was play and imagine.
"Hey where's Alice and that new girl going?"
Sharon paused, turning to Nicole who know pointed to the pair of dark haired teens. It made Sharon a bit angry that Alice didn't join them. Over the last couple of weeks the quartet had grown closer, becoming close friends. Instead Alice wanted to stay a stupid teenager and now she was making stupid teenage friends. "I don't know," Nicole shrugged, the young brunette tilting her head curiously as the teens vanished from sight. "Alice has been really weird lately. How come she didn't want to play?"
"Probably that dumb teenagers fault," Sharon huffed, folding her arms across her chest. Teenagers, they always tried to be more grown up than they were. By Sharon's young logic if that girl hadn't shown up Alice would have come to play with then.
"Hey what's that?"
Sharon paused, looking to where Lena was pointing. Sitting on the bench the thre girls now noticed the dice. When Alice had left, she appeared to have forgotten them. As the girls now approached, they gazed down at them. Slowly a mischievous idea began to form. Sharon gently picking them up.
"Hey dice" Sharon asked. "If I ask can you make someone younger even if they don't touch you?"
"What are you doing," Nicole asked.
"What if the di e can make some younger by us just asking," Sharon stated. "Then, maybe Alice would come play with us."
"What about the other girl," Lena asked. Sharon shrugged, maybe the dice could change her too. Afterall it was always more fun the more kids you had to play with. "I say go for it," Lena cheered, the auburn haired child sporting an impish smile. "Me too," Nicole added, the girl giddy with excitement as she stated at the dice.
Sharon nodded, taking a deep breath as she let the dice fall from her hands.
