Theia knew the wisest move was to consult Dimitri Copperstone immediately. She'd be a fool to not take advantage of the fact that he had come to stay at the riding school for the time being. Theia carefully made sure the mares were fine in their stalls, then went to get Dmitri from the guest house he was staying in.
When Theia got there, Dmitri was going through his freshly delivered mail. She cleared her throat. Dmitri looked up from the unopened letter in his hand.
"Theia," he said pleasantly. "Do you need something?"
"Yes. I stumbled across two riderless mares. One is a Witch's Pony. Given your background, I thought it best to consult you."
"Please, show me," Dmitri said. He set down the letter and followed Theia back to the stable. On the way, Theia elaborated, telling him exactly how she had found the mares, as well as the fact they were both pregnant. When they got to the stable, Dmitri raised an eyebrow at the Witch's Pony.
"Could she be one of your family's?" Theia asked. Dmitri walked up to the Witch's Pony and began to examine her.
"My family typically breeds the taller variety," he said, "but she does have magic levels only found in Copperstone horses." He stroked her mane. "Do you mind if I examine her companion? That may give me a better idea of where she came from."
"Of course!" Theia said. As Dmitri examined the Arabian, Theia supplied her theory, that she had come from the Royal Stables.
"If that is the case, I will probably have my brother Yevgeney come retrieve her," Dmitri said. "He works as a Royal Guard, after all. I would hate for something to happen to this fine mare." Theia nodded, but couldn't help her disappointment. Oh, how she would love to keep the Arabian! Perhaps she could still do so, if she was persuasive enough.
Dmitri finished examining the Arabian. He stepped out of the stall and looked thoughtfully at the mares. Theia could only imagine what he might be thinking.
