Mark did not know how long he spent chasing his tail. All he knew was that he regained his human thoughts once he was exhausted, lying flat on the ground and panting profusely out of an outburst of energy. This brought him a sad realisation - that he was at risk of losing his human thoughts and that he might start behaving like a dog for real. And forever. That thought was utterly terrifying. But Mark knew that he could not stay in this garden forever. Maybe his exploration might turn up something interesting. Besides, he had nothing else to do. It was a small hope, but it was one.
On the way to the house, he realised that ignoring his new canine instincts might be more complicated than he thought at first. As he trotted in humiliating tiny strides to the house, he felt distracted by all sorts of smells and sounds: buzzes of insects, flies, dirt, flowers, nearby cars, the cooking of the neighbours, the voices of people in the streets,... All seemed to beckon him to investigate further, snatching away his focus. He had to resist sniffing everything. In fact, putting his snout everywhere seemed to be his brain's only priority for the moment. Hopefully, once in the house he could think a bit more clearly.
Alas, it was not really the case. Oh, it was better, but still smells tried to attract his snout. Even the food pellets looked yummy to munch one and... Oh, a bone! Mark thought maybe he could nibble a bit of it? However the most prominent thought in his puppy mind was that he wanted his mommy. Maybe she'd show up somewhere?... Mark had to snap out of it again. No! He had to get away and find help so as to explain that he was NOT a dog!
