Then he heard the rustling of bushes again.
David looked round, but he saw no one.
"I think me getting turned into a monster must've improved my hearing." He said. "Still," he added as he got up and walked on, "I can't understand why I can't see who's following me."
Unbeknownst to David, someone was spying on him. A man with light rose skin and yellow hair cut in a short militarian style, and blue eyes, wearing a brown jacket over a white long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and black slip-on shoes.
"I can sense where he's walking." The man said, sniffing the air.
He darted into the bushes, and there was a flash of light.
When he came out of the bushes, he was very different:
His skin was now covered in pale lime green splotches, his hair was chocolate brown and had a red spiky frill growing from it. His clothes had disappeared, save for his jeans, which had shrunk into jorts. The nails on his fingers and toes had become Sharp claws. His eyes had turned solid blue, and a third one protruded from his forehead. His nostrils looked larger, and curled inside, like a spiral shell you'd find on the beach.
The monster follows David without being seen.
