Thousands of kilometers away, across oceans, Japanese teenager Akari Tanaka opened the App store on her phone. She was interested in virual novels and checked out the list of 'What's new'. Her attention was drawn to a new title “A Medieval Adventure” That sounded interesting, so she clicked on the the free App and downloaded it.
Once the App was installed. Akari eagerly opened it to see what she had. Below the title there is a message which says, “please select clothing”, and below that the motionless and nude image of a european youth. He was naked. In the lower left corner there is an arrow and the words “back to characters” and in the lower right corner an arrow with the word “start”.
Akari thought for a few seconds about whether to look at the different characters available, however, she accidently pressed the start button rather than the back button. She looked at the new screen that popped up. It had options to alter all the characteristics including gender and race, so rather than find her way back to the character list, she decided to change the character she had been given.
The characters name was Jeff. She knew that was an Anglo male name, but didn't really care. She could always change that later
She left the characters age as 16. She was only 13 herself but thought it would more fun if her character was a bit older
Next there was a gender option. She changed Jeff from male to female. She was more comfortable playing as a female character.
The avatar on the screen changed. Instead of a naked teenage boy there was a naked teenage girl. Still with short light brown hair.
Jeff's height was listed as 175cm. That seemed awfully tall for a girl to Akari. She changed it to 165cm. That was still tall in her eyes without being gigantic. It was certainly taller than Akari's height of 155cm
She changed Jeff's weight using a sliding scale. Originally she had been 70 kilograms, but that made the avatar look chubby. She slid the bar until the girls proportions looked right. Jeff was now 55kg
She then looked at hairstyles. There were not many choices. She gave Jeff long hair
Jeff was listed as a student. Akari left her as that. She did wonder about schooling back in medievil times. Did girls even go to school?
Lastly there was a race option. This time there were lots of options. It seemed every country in the world was listed. Without hesitation Akari choose Japanese. The avatars features changed to reflect her new race.
Lastly there was a clothing option. This time Akari choose "Auto" letting the app choose appropriate clothing for a Japanese girl in medievil times. The avatar was now dressed in a drab dark blue gown with a hood. She didn't look very pretty. Akari wondered how to change her clothes, then inspiration hit her. She went back to the 'Occupation' tab and changed Jeff from a 'Student' to a 'Princess'. Immediately the avatar's clothing changed to a golden kimono with intricate weaving. Interestingly her hair was now bound up in a Shimada style. That looked much better.
Satisfied Akari pressed 'Save selections' and then 'Next'
