The door opened and in stepped a young teenager. Curiosity was on his mind as he began to look over the mysterious shop. He hadn't been in this place before...and it seemed to just have popped up out of no where. That caught his interest quickly.
Chris was an average seventeen year old. A student in high-school, with average grades, average hobbies, just an average life. That was the problem. Everything was just...average. And after a while...normalcy just got boring. And now that something remotely exciting, like a new mysterious shop sprouting up in the mall, he had to take a look.
A hand went up to brush back his short brown hair as he began to look over the items. Immediately, a draft hit his slim form, causing him to draw his jacket up and tighten it over him.
"Something I can help you with?" A voice came from behind him.
He jumped and turned quickly, green hues quickly taking in the man that had appeared behind him. The man was not much taller then he was, Asian, and quite old. He lift a hand and began to brush at his whitened beard.
"I...I uh..." Chris began, still recovering from his slight scare. "I'm not really looking for anything..."
"Ah then perhaps I can look for you!" He spoke before looking around and then quickly swiping up a carved, red horse. "This..." He began as he lift it up to Chris. "Is nearly a hundred years old...and legend has it...was used by a merchant as a good luck charm. He acquired it from an old temple and...legend has it even more...that when he touched it...gold began to rain from the sky for him!"
Chris gave him an odd look and glanced over the item before a small chuckle came from hi lips.
"Heh, I didn't know that they had "Made in Taiwan" stickers a hundred years ago." Indeed, the horse had a small white sticker that spoke those words on it's side.
The old man's smile faded and he looked away, horse once again moving onto the shelf.
"Ah well...you have an observant eye." He complimented. "Perhaps...are you sure that you are not looking for anything?"
"Ah well...anything exciting here?" Chris shrugged. He wasn't expecting a decent answer from this crazy guy.
"Excitement?" His smile changed from an amused expression...to a smirk. "I think I have something."
Chris blinked and placed his hands on his hips. Another cheap trinket? Probably...but he had to say he was intrigued. At least this thing might end in a good laugh. The man turned and stepped towards the cashier's desk. After ducking behind it, he came up with a silver necklace. The chain about it was small and made up of tiny links that shimmered in the light of the room. These links wrapped about and connected to a circular pendant that glimmered brightly. The pendant was filled with swirls and designs. Quite an eye catching item.
"This...well...the story is much too complicated to retell. But I guarantee you...this one is authentic." He leaned forward, presenting the object to the teen. Chris leaned forward and let his hand lift to take it. His skin tingled slightly as the cold metal went in contact with his hand. Eyes were drawn to it, mouth slightly agape. It felt as if...the item was calling to him. His head nodded and he looked back up.
"How much?" He questioned.
"It is very rare...and very expensive...so...I'd say about twenty." He laughed and shrugged before he went to open the register, not even waiting for Chris to agree. Chris' hand fell to his pocket and he produced the bill, which was snatched up quickly.
"Hehe!" The man chuckled. "Thank you! And please...come again!" He invited. Chris didn't hear him. He was too busy staring at the necklace as he exited the store.
