Jeff had disrobed in the bathroom, at 19 he was taller and lean, but more muscular than at 16. His chest and abdomen had a smattering of hair, it didn't yet rival his father's but was clearly trending in that direction. His stubble was dark and covered his entire face. He looked good, still youthful, but clearly also mature.
A tingling began and within just a few seconds his stature diminished, his definition was again hidden by the traces of baby fat he had yet to expunge, and his manly stubble was reduced back to the pathetic beginnings of peach fuzz.
Jeff let out a pained sigh he didn't know he was holding. Jeff had feelings for Macy, but is that only because his deep friendship with Mason paved the way or does he have feelings for Mason? They're the same person, just different packaging! But he's straight, or would this make him gay? No, not gay because Macy's a girl. Bi? Pan? But Macy's a girl, so he'd still be straight, right?
'What is my problem? Last night my best friend found out they were trans or a lot closer to it than either of us realized and all you can think about is a label for your orientation! Don't be selfish Jeff!' He growled at his reflection in frustration and banished a tear that escaped as he battled back the torrent of feelings tied to his own identity and letting go of the hope for a future that Mason didn't want with him.
"You okay?" Mason's voice, cautious and timid. He heard Jeff's grunt.
"I'll be out in a minute." Jeff called, not quite managing to sound like himself. Between his self-loathing for being selfish and heartbreak from the fresh rejection it was hard to pin down what was off with his tone. The footsteps continued down the hall toward the kitchen.
Composing himself, Jeff threw on his clothes which had shrunk to meet his new form. He took a final second with the mirror to remind himself that he needs to be there for his friend and this isn't about him or his feelings. Taking advantage of Mason's own internal turmoil would be wrong.
Bracing himself for the rest of Mason's visit he left the bathroom and met the others in the kitchen.
