You cannot come to a decision as to your next course of action, and try to convince yourself that you are not certain as to what you have seen. Maybe you just thought a vial was missing? Unsure of yourself, you absently head over to the fridge and try to figure out which experimental drug cocktails that you have left showed the most promise, and what would be the best tack to follow when Maya and Greg return. You still had to find a cure, no matter what Robin did with the current treatment, and maybe by utilizing what you still remember from the data, your team can formulate a better serum.
Your shoulders drop and you heave a sigh. Who are you kidding? The piles of data it took just to get to this point were now locked away somewhere, and your one source of new data had effectuated his violent escape. Even if Maya or Greg remembered the exact proportions of the experimental drugs in your serum, without data from the subject, you would have no idea which aspect of the serum worked and which needed to be modified. Plus there was no way Robin would let you test another subject anytime soon, so why try to duplicate the current serum?
Your enthusiasm is thoroughly chilled, and not just from having your head in the fridge. As your eyes wander aimlessly, something catches your gaze. The fridge is meticulously organized with all sorts of drug vials, everything painstakingly labeled and categorized due to the vital nature of your research. Every rack contains only one sort of drug, and while the vials are similar in size and shape, the labels on different racks vary largely for easy identification. Which is why the one vial that doesn't belong in that rack sticks out to you. Unconsciously, you reach for it.
It couldn't be just a mistake, could it? In your hand is a vial of the serum you just tested, the same as the vials which had been carted away by Robin's security detail. You really should chase down the guards and inform them they overlooked a vial. If someone finds out you still have a vial in your possession, your position in the research program could be compromised. You cannot afford to get kicked out over something stupid like security protocols, you still have to find a cure for your brother. However, the best step towards finding that cure now lay in your hands.
Then again, someone must have placed the vial in the other rack. It definitely was not you. Was it Maya? Or Greg? Or did someone else do it? More importantly, did they do so knowing that the serum would be confiscated in order to ensure one vial would still remain unsecured? If that was the motive, will they come back for it, and what do they intend to do with it? What if they found out that you saw it? You really should just turn it over to security and wash your hands of the whole affair...
At that moment, you hear a group of running footsteps pound by out in the hallway, then a few seconds later, you hear someone fiddling with the lab door. Without thinking, you shove the vial into your coat pocket and close the fridge, turning around as the door opens.
