You are 17 now. You remember how when you were only 7, several girls transformed you when playing house. Of course, you're no longer afraid of girls--you'd have grown out of it even without any transformation. But it was always strange, having to live like a girl and having other people think you were a girl when you weren't.
But how could such a thing have been possible, anyway? It would be ridiculous that every girl in the world has the ability to transform people when playing house. But these girls obviously could. How did they get this ability? They weren't related, so they probably didn't get it from their parents.
You get an idea and call up Janet. She was one of the girls who had transformed you, but when she got older she treated you a lot more nicely--unlike Carol, who even today as a teenager is a real bitch. Janet even apologized for changing you, but when she tried to change you back by playing house again, it didn't work. You think she's quite attractive, too--when you grew up, you ended up liking other girls just as a boy might.
"Hello."
"Hi, Janet, it's Tammy. I know you've apologized a lot, but it's about my transformation. I need to know exactly what you remember about getting that ability to change people."
"I don't really remember, Tammy. We were all so young then and we just suddenly got it, we really don't know why."
"Okay, but where was the first time you did it?"
"I'm not sure really, it may have been at Jessica's house, in her basement. Or the day before in the playground. I don't remember that far back very well."
"Okay, Janet, but did you go anywhere special before that, and play house there?"
"Well, there was the school field trip to the old caves, but we didn't transform anyone there."
"Thanks, Janet, you've been a big help!"
"Uh, all right."
The number 12 bus, you recall, goes pretty near the location of those caves. You take a flashlight from the kitchen and grab a Coke, catch the bus, and walk a half mile to the caves. Then you turn on the flashlight and shine it inside.
The caves seem only a few dozen yards deep, but there is plenty of area to search. Besides, you don't know exactly what you're looking for. You can't find anything and after an hour of pushing walls, moving rocks, and looking for cave paintings, you sit down, tired. Drinking the Coke, you hesitate. The ground is starting to get warm. Could this be what Janet and the others had found?
You wait and it gets warmer. Then you hear a voice in your head. "All girls are worthy of my power. For five years you may change other people. When would you like to change people?"
You must have found it! But the question was faint, so hard to hear.
"When do you wish to be able to change people? If you can't answer, I will decide for you."
"Whenever I want!" you finally reply. "But only when I really mean it, not by accident."
You realize what must have happened. There's not much reason to sit on the floor in this cave, so not many people would find this. The five girls must have sat down in the cave and been given the power. But they didn't even notice it, so they didn't answer the question. The voice must have decided to give them the power while playing house. And it only lasts five years, so by the time Janet started being nice you you it was too late for her to change you back.
But now you have it.
You need a test. You think, "I want to transform myself into a redhead."
You shine the flashlight on your long strands of hair and see... red! Or redhead-type red, anyway.
You think that you want to transform yourself into a blonde... and suddenly the hair in your light is blonde.
So it worked. Right now, you had the power, and you could use it any time. And the girls who tormented you as a child don't have the power any more.
You consider the possibilities. You could change to a boy now, but he power only goes to girls. If you became a boy, you'd lose the power, and you're not sure you know how to act as a boy anyway.
What can you do?
