Ben was confused when he say the casting list. The part he was given was really outside of his expectations. He loved theater, but as a freshman he hadn't expected a big part, and especially not the one he had been given. He decided to ask the director.
Mr. Kingsley was an eccentric. He was very into method acting and helping his actors truly become their characters. Ben wasn't sure what that meant but he did put on the best shows.
"Mr. Kingsley," Ben approached. "I have a question about the part I was given. Is it possible you put my name on the wrong spot?"
Mr. Kingsley's eyebrow quirked up. "Not a big enough roll?"
"No." Ben blurted. "It might be too big since I'm new. Also I feel like I don't really look like..."
Mr. Kingsley waved his hand. "Yes, that. Every year the freshmen are confused despite it being in the permission form your parents sign when you audition. Do you know how infuriating it is to try and cast two kids who look like brothers, when the ones perfect for the part don't look anything alike? That's why your parents had to sign the permission forms for you to use the swap app for the duration of the play."
Mr. Kingsley began to get really excited. "This allows me to cast for acting ability alone, not what the people look like. Who cares of someone is a girl, if she can be a good prince charming, I just need to find a body to fit the look and put her in it."
Knowing his father, he signed it without looking at it. Ben couldn't complain too much since he had turned it in without reading it. "So how do I find another body for this?"
"Don't worry," Mr. Kingsley told him. "Several other theater directors do the same thing at their schools. We can switch you within our own cast as much as possible, but if no one here fits the bill, we can borrow a body from a production at another school. All of this was in the papers you signed."
Ben nodded. "Right. So have our bodies already been picked?"
"Yes, and we will be swapping after school today." Mr. Kingsley pulled a paper out of his portfolio. "Here's who you have been assigned to."
