As the ferryman took off from the dock. Jennifer could see Justin starting to change and look a bit different. Justin's vision begun to spin and twist as the world around him begun to change. The table, the floor and the ceilings rearranging themselves very slightly. Jennifer saw Justin looking at his own hand and like a white guitar string vibration. A small electic pulse echoed through Jennifer's body into Justin. As it hit Justin's body it returned back to Jennifer.
Justin and Jennifer stared at each other for a long time as from Justin's point of view Jennifer was only one which didn't change at all while the whole world was mushed and rearranged in front of his eyes.
Behind Justin, Jennifer's mom Sylvia, had approached the living room and was offering freshly squeezed orange juice to both of them. Jennifer tried to watch how Justin was reacting and based on his weird movement. She was sure that he was following her like a dog on a leash. Justin thanked for the orange juice even if he was a little bit dazed and was surprised how watery the drink was.
"So, how's your mother doing?" Sylvia asked as she sat down.
"Huh, Miranda? Oh, she's fine. Still doing the work you left for her and all that stuff..." Justin laughed.
"Work? What work?" Sylvia asked.
"You know. THE work. She's your secretary." Justin looked at Sylvia as they both were confused.
"I've known your mother since middle school and I have no idea what you are talking about. Didn't she ask you to come here for my homeschooling as she's busy working as a server at the local restaurant?" Sylvia explained as she gulped her own drink.
"Server? My mom? No. She was doing the paperwork the moment I left the house. Why would she work at a restaurant?" Justin kept asking.
"Ermm, Isn't it kinda obvious..." Sylvia murmured
"What is...?" Justin asked as he raised his eyebrow.
"Oh." Sylvia gasped quietly and put her hand on her face. "She haven't told you yet...? Sorry to bring it up like this but can I ask you instead how old do you think you mom is?"
"That's easy. She had her 40th birthday last week." Justin said proudly.
"Hun. Sorry to burst your bubble but she's not even thirty yet." Sylvia apologized. "She's as old as I am."
Justin stared a Sylvia for a long while and turned his head towards Jennifer who raise her glass to her mouth. Then he turned his back at Sylvia and jokingly responded, "Miss Sylvia, are you pulling my leg here?"
"I wish I was. But that's the truth. Sorry it had to come this way." Sylvia lowered her head.
Justin looked confused and a little bit mortified what Sylvia just explained to him. There was no way that his mother was THAT young. His eyes turned back to Jennifer who tried her best to look away. As Jennifer looked back at Justin he could make out that his lips were saying 'what the fuck' without any sound.
