The foxes padded towards the alien, their paws muffled by the soft ground. Their pointy ears stood alert and twitching noses sampled the air. The alien remained motionless, feeling an unfamiliar tingle in its alien senses as it studied these strange earth creatures.
One particularly brave fox inched closer, its vibrant orange coat glowing in the moonlight. It released a curious bark, head cocked quizzically as it scrutinized the alien. Emboldened, the other foxes followed suit, gathering in a loose semicircle around the fallen star. They advanced cautiously on silent paws.
Suddenly, a distant sound froze them in place. The foxes snapped to attention, then dashed off in all directions, vanishing into the brush. In mere moments, the alien was left alone once again, the only sign of the encounter being faint paw prints in the dirt.
Seeing the retreat of the foxes, the alien withdrew into the relative safety of the meteorite. It oozed back into the rock's pitted surface. Yet, a thin appendage remained exposed, allowing it to monitor its surroundings without revealing itself. The nearly invisible tendril sensed everything, from vision to smells. It detected approaching movement in the darkness. Foreign gaits reached the alien's senses, but it could deduce that it belonged to a two-legged creature. Aside from the steps, the creature produced unfamiliar sounds that seemed to be spoken language. The words were unfamiliar, and the alien couldn't match them with the language in its vast memory banks.
The bipedal illuminated a light source as it neared, but its form remained cloaked in shadow. It circled the meteorite repeatedly, kicking up bits of debris with each crunching step as it investigated the impact site. As the clouds parted, moonlight illuminated the biped. The alien caught a brief glimpse of its appearance.
