The two women began to tread water out in the open ocean, finding the choppy waters of the open Atlantic proving to be a little too hard to keep their heads above the surface in.
Izzy spat out a big mouthful of saltwater from her sudden leap into the sea. “What are we doing?! We can’t just swim back to shore, we’ll get slashed on those rocks!”
“I don’t know… but the song, it’s calling that way isn’t it?” Nina replied, shimmying out of her jacket that was impeding her ability to swim. After doing so, she began paddling deeper out to sea.
“Yeah, and not just out, but down. It’s underwater. Singing coming from under the sea, how’s that possible?” Izzy asked as she started breaststroking after her. She was to first to notice that cutting through the water was surprisingly trivial for the both of them, neither of them exactly master swimmers.
Then abruptly, about a hundred feet out to open water, Nina and Izzy pinched their noses and dived. As they started swimming downward, Izzy gasped and inhaled a big gulp of seawater, she wrenched in terror for a minute, only to reel as she realized she was breathing air just fine.
“We’re- we’re breathing water!” Gasped Nina in disbelief and awe. “We’re speaking in water! This is so fucking cool!”
“Wait, there’s two of you?!” Came a third voice, just as shocked as the girlfriends. Demetria had caught the sound of the two humans and followed them upwards to investigate. “This hasn’t happened in over a century!” Deme covered her mouth in shock. “I… I never thought I’d ever-“ the mermaid trailed off, noticing the shock and confusion of her two companions.
“Let me start over. I’m Demetria, my friends call me Deme.” She reached out a hand. “You uhh, you both heard my siren’s song I guess.”
Izzy and Nina were both coming to grips with the sudden appearance of a shockingly beautiful, very nude mermaid clad in emerald all over with her eyes and scales and hair. Still, Nina obliged and took her hand. “Nice to meet you, I’m Nina. I suppose that explains all the weirdness that’s happened so far.” She looked her in the eye. “So… siren song eh? Are you going to eat us or something? What do you mean we’re the first in a century?” Nina asked, more than a little frightened and confused. Isidora was also confused, but more so about why it looked like Nina’s long blond hair was turning… blue.
“Right, no point dancing around it is there? The stories about mermaids drowning people and eating them? Nonsense. We eat fish and seaweed, things we can catch. Your landwalker stories about that come from the fact that to keep our numbers up, childbearing isn’t enough. We just… aren’t that fertile, y’know? So to fix that, and to get new blood, we invite humans with our songs when we come of age, drylanders who yearn for the sea… or won’t miss the land at least. You’re the first time in a long time the song brought two people at once.” Deme explained.
“So… we’re gonna turn into mermaids like you? Just like that?” Izzy asked. Somehow in her gut, she already knew the answer.
“Just like that.” Confirmed the mermaid.
“That’s… that’s fine actually. My girlfriend Isidora here is estranged from her family back home in Chile, and I recently just had a falling out with what’s left of mine. So… guess your song got that right.” Nina mused.
“Oh… I’m so sorry, both of you. For what it’s worth, merfolk don’t do that kind of crap lightly. We’re a pretty tightly knit kinship. Speaking of which… there is one other big bombshell I’ve gotta drop. The siren’s song is also called a… mating ritual. Answering the siren’s call pretty much always means the merfolk and their human become lovers…” she blushed. “But if you’re already together and happy then the last thing I want would be-“
“Well. It’s a good thing we’ve been talking about trying going poly.” Nina chuckled.
“Yep, and we couldn’t be more lucky to have had such a gorgeous partner!” Izzy added, her now amethyst eyes sparkling.
“You think I’m gorgeous?” Deme asked in disbelief. She assumed her partner would be someone who would find her appealing of course, but she couldn’t imagine a soul who actually would.
“Oh God yeah! I mean, do your people have mirrors? You’re incredible!” Nina put a hand to the woman’s cheek.
“Couldn’t have said it better myself.” Said Izzy, holding onto the mermaid’s arm.
Deme found herself melting from these two girls’ affection already, and she blushed fiercely as she felt the cleft holding her womanhood slowly sliding open in arousal. “I’m kinda plain as mermaids go if you can believe it… but thanks. That means a lot, I wasn’t sure how this was gonna go, and you’re taking this in such stride too.” Deme gasped as each woman took a turn putting a big, sweet, sloppy kiss on the lips.
“Well I guess we won’t be striding anywhere pretty soon, eh? So what do we need to do to get our tails Deme?” Izzy questioned.
Deme examined her two partners’ features. “It looks like you’re already starting to turn in small places, so that’s good. We should get you on the seafloor. Getting your tails won’t hurt, but it’ll be… intense is what the priestess said.”
“Good intense?” Probed Nina.
“Horny intense. No other way to say it. Also would be good if you got undressed for it. The change won’t spare your clothes any, you especially.” Deme pointed at Nina’s jeans.
“Sounds good to me… I wasn’t expecting to completely change my whole life today, but this seems like a good deal.” Izzy said.
“Same here… especially that horny part.” She raised an eyebrow at Deme and Izzy.
“One thing at a time Nina, let’s just get your two comfortable, then see where it goes from there?” The mermaid suggested.
