Ty said, "I think I need a little water while I consider how to proceed." He stood to go to the kitchen. "Can I get you anything, Mark?"
"Please don't hurt them!" Mark begged, his face ashen.
"I won't," said Ty. "Despite how I've been treated by all of you for these last four years, I don't actually want to hurt any of you. I didn't really even want to hurt Dustin. I did it unknowingly, in the heat of the moment. I'm sure being frozen is terrifying, but I don't know anything else to do to try to defuse the situation _without_ hurting anyone. Now, can I grab you a beer?"
Mark shook his head. He couldn't remember Ty ever having offered to do anything nice for him, even as small as fetching a can of beer. He'd often _ordered_ Ty, or Dustin or June, to get him a beer, but this... this was an entirely new experience. "I think just a glass of water would be good." He knew just one beer wouldn't affect him much, but for once it seemed best to stay as sharp as possible.
As Ty turned to go to the kitchen, he said to June and Dustin, "I know you're terrified, and perhaps seething with anger as well, but please try to calm down while I go to the kitchen briefly. I don't want to hurt you. Mark has already been through what you're experiencing, and he's OK. When I come back, I'll see about unfreezing you, so we can finish our discussion." He walked into the kitchen.
Mark stared in horror at his wife and son, frozen like statues in mid-action.
