Ty was already answering the door as Mark and June entered the room. He said, "Hi, Lisa, please come on in," and she stepped inside. Ty momentarily thought about what happened immediately after she had entered on her previous visit.
"Lisa, this is my mother, June," he said, introducing her, "and my my father, Mark."
"We're delighted to meet you," said Mark, "Please come in and have a seat."
"Can I get you anything to drink," June asked "We have fruit juice, milk, tea, and several kinds of soda."
"No thank you," Lisa replied, "I'm not thirsty right now."
"If you'll please excuse me, then," June said, "I'll finish getting dinner ready. We'll eat in about half an hour. Just let me know if I can get you anything."
"Thank you," said Lisa, as June returned to the kitchen.
As Lisa, Ty, and Mark sat down, Mark said, "Lisa, I gather you're in Ty's class at school?"
"No," answered Lisa, "I'm a year ahead of Ty, and we haven't had any classes in common. I suppose you could say..." At this point she stole a glance at Ty. "... that we met by accident."
"Interesting," said Mark. "It's a big school, but I suppose there must be plenty of opportunity to meet other students aside from classrooms."
At this point Ty said, "Yes, there's always a lot going on." He wanted to steer the conversation away from any discussion of how they had met. He was mentally kicking himself for not having previously discussed this with Lisa, because in hindsight it was inevitable that the question would arise.
Ty changed the subject. "Dad, if you don't mind, I'll show Lisa around the house."
"Good idea, son. You two go on. We'll let you know when the meal is ready."
