When Jade's transformation seemed to have stopped, Dan flipped through some pages until he found the "tractor-beam" reversal. He cast the spell in the anthro-snail's direction and the green glowing orb slowly faded away. Jade landed with a squish on the grass. She immediately pulled her body into her shell. Dan took one step closer to Jade when he heard a yell from behind him. He didn't have time to turn as Kat came crashing into him like a linebacker. They both fell to the ground and Dan was momentarily dazed. In his surprise, he'd dropped the book on the ground. He sat up just in time to see Kat running away with unnatural speed. The book was gone.
Only then did the situation dawn on him. He had read the correct spell, but instead of only freeing Jade, the spell freed all three girls. and now Dan's spell casting sister had her book back and a hopeless head start on him. Dan was taken aback by the eyes. They were the same deep brown color they had always been, and they had enlarged to the size of baseballs sitting on the end of fleshy stalks. Looking down into her eyes and seeing the very human pain and fear in them, he took no joy in his revenge.
He was lost in Jade's eyes and didn't hear Rachel rise to her feet beside him. She turned to Dan and...
